Taking less water, sounds more like an air lock.

Keep an eye on level and gauges, as you're doing, and you shouldn't have any problems (even if there is a slight leak).

Not sure if it is loosing less water, the time it seemed full after 50 klms I had opened it after about 5 minutes of driving it and it seemed OK, but the next morning it was down about 100ml, so it seems pretty constant :/ There was good pressure in the radiator when it was hot.

Jim did not seem too worried about it and said to keep an eye on it. So now I have a couple of Lts in the car just in case and to keep it topped up. I do it now after it gets cold to get a true reading.

I think any air pockets would be long gone by now, but I think as long as the lose of water is constant over a given distance driven, seems to say it is not getting any worse "I hope"

Only have a couple of weeks before the final tune, this will give them a chance to test and find out where the water is going and fix it :)

Nothing unusual, bit of aircon dribble .

100ml over 60 klms is reasonably slow considering it has pressure I think, but??

Wish it had green coolant, much easier to spot :)

Not sure on RB26, but on my 25, the turbo coolant feed line runs round the back between the head and firewall, that's a good spot to have a slow leak, maybe have a look in there.

The only water I can find is ,I think from the aircaon and it is coming down where it always has before the build. It drips down at the back of the front wheel , in where the connection is to the exhaust where the pipe comes down from the motor when you stop the car, does not smell like radiator water and if it was leaking like that all the time the radiator would be empty after 100 or 200klm.

I think I can smell it coming through the aircon. There are no wet areas inside the car.

Only have a couple of weeks to go and they can find it, it is a wonder they did not see it while they were using it, maybe they did and that was why they told me to keep an eye on it to see what happened ??

my old man had a coolant lose in a commodore, using half a litre a week (500km's), it turn out to be a small, 8 mm hose at the back of the motor, was only a slow drip and wasn't evident because it was near the exhaust, so it burnt off as it dripped,( only one drop every 10seconds) just was thinking the turbo coolant line is that size and hidden at the firewall, so thought id suggest shining a light in there. the smell could be coming thru the firewall round there..

It is possible to have a leak in the heater core, that won't initially come out, but will after enough leaks into the system.

You would think if it was loosing water under pressure it would still leave a puddle after the motor is turned off, but it may be similar to your old mans car.

After a drive tomorrow I will have a look before I turn it off.

I hope it is something simple and no need for anything drastic , but as there is no oil in the water and no water in the oil it should be OK :/

Yeah water always comes out of the AC with the cold air on.

How much is enough before it comes out, has to be a couple of Lts missing by now

The only good thing about this, Jim is not worried. So I will worry for the both of us :)

If going onto the exhaust, it would evaporate.

By the time the exhaust cools down, the cooling system has dropped pressure and stopped leaking.

the aircon water does not evaporate, but it only hits the pipe low down near the bend on the way down and warms up before hitting the ground

5-10 minutes after you shut the car off after a good drive is when you look for leaks on the ground as the pressure builds once the car is turned off and the coolant heats up due to it not moving through radiator

This happened to me when i put my motor back in and it was a hose clamp on one of the 8mm hoses under the brake booster wasn't on properly :(

My major problem is my lack of knowledge about these cars, well car internals in general and my body being stuffed makes it difficult to get in and around them to search for things like this :(

When I was young you could get inside the engine bay and there were only mechanical problems, no computers etc, now you are lucky to get your arm in there, lol

Yeah Bob , as they do not seem worried they will do it when I take it down in a couple of weeks, have the Klms up now for the final tune and I would rather that they do it and no one else can be blamed if shit happens.

I am keeping a very close eye on the oil and water while driving and after each drive and all good , well except for loosing water , LOL

That's how i found exactly where my leak was, i pressurised the system and bingo

Just did 126 Klms, parked for 10 minutes and could not see anything leaking. Drove into the garage and apart from the aircon water there was one dribble about 2 foot in front of the aircon water, I think it could have been some of the aircon water that dropped after I drove off.

I let the car run for a while longer, turned it off again for a while and then moved the car out of the garage but other than the aircon water there was nothing, I thought I found it for a minute :(

When it cools down later I will see how much water it takes.

Got all of the Klms done for the tune, just a drive to Sydney away in 2 weeks and :cool:

Try putting windows down and turning ac off 10mins before you know you'll be home.

She I understand stop the water from the ac coming into the equation.

I did turn the aircon off once before to test it, but I had it on for a long time before that , so I will turn it off from the start and try again, love to find the leak.

Might leave it off for a couple of days just to be sure.

    • I believe Unimog is the only vehicle that has it (from the manufacturer). I haven't seen aftermarket permanently connected kits, but I haven't looked either.
    • Ha ha ha, can't overthink when exhausted... Oh how I wish I had that power! I can be absolutely dead set shot, and my brain will still go "we need a good 3 or 4 hours to just think about everything and anything before you may sleep... My biggest thing is making sure I give myself enough sleep. I don't operate on even 7 hours of sleep! I attempt to give my body 9.5hours sleep a night to be able to function. I don't sleep the whole 9.5, but I need to make sure I offer a big window. I also take a single supplement, which is to help with long term health, and fighting inflammation, and I notice it helps massively. Especially me sleeping, and just less "achey" in the body. Have also kicked sugar, and gluten. A majority of people with ADHD don't go well with gluten. It causes a really interesting natural opioid overdose in the brain, which causes bodily issues and sensory issues.

    • Yep. But typically that's just run a hose down to the tyre while stationary.   Oh and the Unimog will automatically air up and air down tyres from the onboard computer for you too.
    • There was a good video somewhere, maybe Kurzgesagt that linked physical activity to ADHD/Anxiety/Insomnia etc. Basically the body WILL spend energy doing something if you don't spend it doing anything physical. It isn't fun, but I personally have noticed I've never been overthinky, or unable to sleep if I'm physically exhausted from doing a lot. The musings around it seem to indicate that this is one of the reasons/mechanism that physical activity improves mental health/wellbeing etc, by more or less not using that 'extra' energy to overthink, be anxious, inflammation, etc. There's also the fact that every obnoxious exerciser ever says it's great and helps which is extremely annoying. Like people who say the same thing about travel being the best thing ever. I mean, they clearly are, but blah. I started doing a LITTLE myself (think 3x15min per week) and honestly did notice the benefits, aiming at life quality when older. Which is sooner than you think. Getting something into your routine that you can actually make a routine has helped me at least. This post brought to you by procrastination between sets.
