Bonnet Vents Help

hey guys

Do u think putting bonnet vents on my skyline do any good...becuase i cant really afford to blow $1095 on carbon fibre/fibreglass bonnet so i thought puttin 2 vents on the bonnet may help ...even for looks wise too....here is the vents i wanna install with mesh....any comments would b great

Install them, they look top, will be great to see what they look like on your R33 GTS-t, I've only ever seen these on R32's.

only prob havent figured how to cut the shape out...wat do i use to cut it?...oh and would the water if it ever rained again wreck anythign through the mesh?

The vents are good and will look great as well. Yes the rain will get in the engine bay, but no it shouldn't wreck anything, unless you are place a vent right above your pod filter, then yes in the rain, you will suck water into your intake.

Where are the vents to be positioned on the bonnet??? Kind of like a Ford XR8??? Another cheap alternative to bonnet vents is a bonnet lift. The drop in temperature whilst the car is moving is quite substantial!

Easy solution, don't crash then!! I've done the bonnet lift on my car, and it made a HUGE difference to everything, the other thing if you want to start looking at lowering tempratures is to plate off the area between ur bumper and your radiator support panel so the air can only go through your radiator/intercooler...

u mean a radiator air guide obviously....well il try the bonnet lift ..i have the DIY guide from Autosalon mag so il try but...ive got my mind stuck on putting vents in but i cant visualise wat they would look like

I have vents on my R33. They look fair shit, but you can see heat pouring out when you pull up to a set of lights. I'm looking at replacing the vents with WRX style vents or buying a carbon-fibre or fibre-glass bonnet in the not too distant future..

na i dont think i would put WRX style vents on a skyline ...do u mean the honeycomb look ones?...im still leaning 2wards those vents i showed ....

Personally I like a squarer vent on the series 2 GTS ( assuming from your avitar ). Better suits the square front and flat bonnet. Something like what they used on the Sierra Cosworth bonnet.

Then again, have you felt the weight of the standard bonnet? That's a good enough reason to invest in a vented aftermarker one.

Hi, guys. I looked into putting vents in the bonnet and I am still very interested, but I was told by a couple of people that adding vents is against the ADR and that the cops are hot on it. Also, it is unlikely that the pits would pass them. I haven't got around to asking the inspectors at one of the WA pits, but I will try to in the next couple of days. Apparently, from a previous thread (can't recall which), they have two concerns: one is when the vent is facing backwards, they reckon you could get an oil leak that would spray oil onto the windscreen, thus hastening your demise through lack of forward vision. Second one is when the vent is facing forwards, all those nice sharp edges are not pedestrian friendly for those occasions when someone drops in unexpectedly for a little ride on your bonnet.

It seems that the powers that be are none too keen on fibreglass or CF bonnets, either. It seems that these will tend to shatter and rip to bits this pedestrian who insists on hitching a lift on the front of your car. I can understand this with fibreglass/GRP, but thought that this would be less the case with the stronger CF.

A bonnet lift will definitely not be passed by our mates at the pits - as far as I am aware.

I am still keen on pursuing vents. I like the R34 V-Spec vent. :aroused: I was also thinking of linking a vent to a cold air intake - the rain over the bonnet will definitely not be as bad as any splashes you get from a low mounted pipe in your front guard vent.

I am also looking at adding GTR vents to my front guard - the ones either side of the number plate. This should work on an R33 GTST SII and may give another option for the cold air intake inlet.

Meanwhile, P1E do you have any pics of your vents?

As far as I know, vents are legal as long as you don't cut away at any structural points of the bonnet.

Yes, as far as I know, as long as it doesn't effect the structural parts of the bonnet, then it's okay.

Look at the standard WRX, B4 Liberty, Peugot 206 etc etc.

P1E is that vent for the air filter?

Looks pretty good. I was thinking of putting a NASA vent for the air filter. Something similar to the intake vent on the Evo 6. Was it an easy job to cut the hole on the bonnet? I was told that you might chip and crack away the paint if I was to cut into the bonnet. Another thing is what will happen if water get into the air filter?

The NASA ones cost heaps, and you have to be a fighter pilot to qualify for one....
