Hey guys,

had walbro gss342 installed today to replace the stock pump.

all went in ok.

only thing is it seems to slightly hesitate after each gear change when I go to accelerate,

seems ok when on full boost, but can slightly hesitate as I start to accelerate.

now when I say hesitate Its not jerking back and fourth its just not responsive and then suddenly it pulls to normal acceleration. .

not sure if just doing a plain oold switch could cause hesitation.

also to let you know I haven't replaced fuel filter since I got it. but could a new pump cause a blocked filter so show issues.

NEED HELP

also no tune has been done.

car was running lean before pump install

A pump swap shouldn't change anything, so if you are having issues, either there is a leak in one of the hoses, or the pump isn't getting enough power.

Did you run a direct power feed through a fuse and relay like you are supposed to with any aftermarket pump? If not, that's where I would start. Check out the Howto.

replaced the fuel filter and that seems to help a little bit still slightly laggy on throttle response in 2nd and 3rd low to medium revs.

am changing the bov to stock bov as have heard that may help.

after that ill look at rewireing the pump, can anyone show me the link I cant seem to find it.

Hey Adam, dunno if there is a how-to on here, but this is what a quick google showed up:

Hope it helps,

Not to threadjack, but I thought my questions would be relevant here, and more helpful than starting another thread.

Is 6mm automotive wire sufficient for an aftermarket fuel pump direct wire mod? The stuff Im looking at is rated for 50 amps, which should be more double what is needed.

For a moderate pump like a 255lph, are there any concerns with daily drivers running the pump at full flow all the time? Ie temperature of the fuel.

What else is out there other than a bosch 040 and walbro 255 for light mods/fuel requirements?

Back to your regular schedule, hope the questions are useful clkngezz

Deatschwerks DW200 series is similar in performance to Walbro 255 or the DW300 is a step up (320lph)

And for the OP there are a couple of tutorials on directly wiring the pump in the "how to DIY" section of this website (not the Stagea one, the general one).

I used a Bosch 984 reusing the factory sock. The bottom hose end makes the install fairly easy to find to the bottom of the tank. Given the number and relative size of pumps these days choosing a Bosch pump is a bit odd but nevertheless the 984 is still running 500hp no issues with factory wiring.

    • The MX5 has had some annoying rattles in both front doors over bumps So I installed fancy pants door bushings, which stopped all of the rattles with the windows up, but........with the windows down there was still rattles, so after some googling,  and a chat with MX5 Mania, I got some new door to glass weather seals, all the rattles, windows up, or down, are gone now Shout out to MX5 Mania, the weather seals were on sale, and when I head to Dural to pick the up they even fitted them for me for free I did see a "really" nice Blue NA sitting out front   and this Black NC PRHT that looked like it has sat in the sun for its whole life and never had a wash, the clear coat was non-existent, an it looked horrible, really horrible, but, it had a nice turbo kit with over 200kw, the thing went like a cut snake, bagging the rears through the gears and dosing like a champ 😍 But, as I've always stated, I am keeping my NC na, I'm happy with the current power the car makes In other news: MX5 Mania do a drive in drive out turbo kit, the only minor additional part recommended for boosting my car, as it sits now, is a oil cooler, and that bonnet vents are definitely required for track use Aftermarket version look a bit to "racecar" spec I wonder how Focus RS bonnet vents would look?????
