I rekon running 2 accumulators might be a little over kill. I think if you're going to build a big HP drag car, it might be easier to run a dry sump setup. Have you considered that or is the price a turn off?

Other thing, not entirely on topic but something to think about, increasing the oil capacity more an more just increases the time it takes to warm the oil. (As we all know). Now running my car on E85 with a big radiator and 7.5litre sump etc.. I can take up to 20 mins of normal speed limit driving before the oil is at temp. With an 800hp drag car, I would definitely want 80 degrees or more in the oil before launching it.

Can you run a dry sump setup with a small oil tank perhaps? Keeps warm up minimal and pressure perfect that way.. Just a thought..

I have always tried to run from the dry sump setup. Yes the cost is crazy. For some reason I rather blow up the damn motor and build another. After learning why it blow up. Lol im sure I sound dumb there. Why does dry sump cost like over 8k. Damn. Ill have to do it one day.

If I was to invest that in a car I would have to go with domestic power like a ls1 motor. Or somthing down those lines. I just hate american cars and how there built. I cant see doing a full domestic big block build unless its all out. I can see myself blowing 100k easy in a project like that and still fall inlove with the r34 parked next to it. Lol. So you soundnlike you have somthing in nmind.???

I that what a dry sump setup is going to cost??!! Wow, that is pricey. Where is the cost in it?

Personally, if I was doing a dry sump setup, I wouldn't be burning money on shiny fittings or something like that. I recently flew a late model cessna style light plane and they have a brilliant little dry sump setup. I thought about trying to find a price on one of the tanks they had mounted in the engine bay or trying to find a second hand one.

Anyway, I run a single stage BDG wet sump pump driven off the crank and because you can then mount you pickup anywhere you like in the sump, you can built a sump around the pickup. I run my oil level to the full line on the standard stick marking and it works brilliantly.

My pickup is a dash 12 size tube with a big slot cut down it and it faces downwards to the lowest part of the sump. It then has trap doors around it channeling the oil.. Complete setup cost about 2k including the pump.

I still want an accumulator, but only for pre oiling on startup because the downside is that the line that runs from the pump to the block drains back through the pump after a few mins and ends of pushing a line full of air into it first.

Hmmmm. 2k thats a lie. Ive never seen this. Dry sump at 2k. I take it that you made half the stuff yourself. ??? I would appreciate it if you could post some links of your setup or photos. What kind of pump did you use.??? Its driven off the crank using what method. Last time I looked at it a thompson pump cost about 900 usd. Wow. Im so interested. If thats the case take photos and if its a good setup ill give you 4k for the setup if thats not an incentive. Lol PM me. :D

No, if you read my second last paragraph about my setup, that's the wet sump setup, pump was 900.. custom sump about 300, brackets etc and the pulley is driven by the harmonic balancer. I machined the 3rd v belt pulley wheel off so it was a flat surface, then mounted a flat plate on it with a shaft to press the pulley on.. pics are quite easy to work out how it's done.

The internal oil pump is removed and a hole drilled and tapped into the front cover for the oil pressure feed..

I'll still take your 4k lol..

Lol. No it had to be for a rb26. Lol nice try tho. When you find that oil can let me know I would be interested in how its done or what you decided to do with your options. What motor is that.??????

    • I don’t really have any ideas how to set the timing on the CAS 😂, sounds like the top, sounds like it maybe misfiring as well as ticking,  got the box sorted 😌, must of been a air bubble on the clutch side
    • Use a 2' length of hose (that's 2 foot, not 2 inches) as a stethoscope to localise the source of the ticking. From cam covers? From exhaust or turbo manifold gasket? From injectors? From lower down in the engine? Etc. Use a timing light to set the timing. Put Redline Lightweight Shockproof in the box. It's not the very best thing for the box, but it will take a box that refuses to engage a gear with other oil, and make it engage a gear. I had to put it in when I installed the R33 box I have in my car. It would not select ANY gear when running. Smurf jizz made it work. That was >10 years ago and I still use it. I'm stuck with it now. Failing that - rebuild the box.
    • Well done Duncan. The fuel tank bulkhead lid is also in great condition (some of mine were stuffed). These are now out of production and good ones like that are becoming hard to come by.
