Radiator Hairline Crack

Hello

Today I noticed a hairline crack at the base of the radiator filler neck, it trickles a small amount of coolant when driving and for a short while after until the car cools down. it's not losing heaps of coolant but don't want to be driving and have it open up and lose my coolant I'm not going to drive it until it's sorted in case it goes bang big crack.

Just looking at advise as to what I should do,

Is it worth removing the stock one and taking it to a radiator place and get the top tank replaced? $150-250

Or buy a brand new koyorad oem replacment radiator $250 http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/RADIATOR-NISSAN-SKYLINE-R33-R34-93-2001-MANUAL-VEHICLE-KOYO-RADIATOR-/200449233351?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2eabb491c7

The car is used 99.5% on the street so a big expensive racing radiator would be overkill and unnecessary. And don't want a cheap china alloy one either

Anyone been here before what would be the best way to go?

Buy a new one. Fix it now and it might just break in another spot later.

Get a new alloy radiator now and less likely to have problems in the future. I bought a Greddy radiator when mine split. Best thing I think I could have done

Yeah I'll get a new one, not really keen on replacing the top tank idea.

I've looked the Blitz 41mm alloy rad and koyo alloy 53mm they are 500-600$ Not sure if it's overkill and a waste of money. Do these fit like oem?

Genuine Nissan.

What do these cost? Couldn't find anything online not sure if anywhere would have one and be able to have it to me within a week

This is dodgy as but I had a mazda bravo way way back when and the top tank split the whole lenght, being young and broke I pulled out the aerodite and put a healthy coat over it till I could afford a new one, 4 years later I replaced it cause it looked dodgy not cuss it was leaking :/

Solder up the crack or just get a replacement stock radiator from your local shop. It should last another 15 years. I just use stock radiators in my car with the RB30 and it doesn't overheat on track days.

Just fixed a Cracked Honda S2000 Gearbox case that cracked around the drain plug in 3 places (told son not to overtighten it 1000 times before putting the plug back in and what does he do?) with JB Weld. :)

I have heard people are also using it on radiators, but i can tell you his gearbox is not leaking and it saved me from pulling the box out and getting it welded back up again. (or replacing the box)

Dodgy as hell but it worked, dont know about the next gearbox oil change though......

The radiator top tank is plastic remember.

I was advided against repairing it when mine cracked. Especially if you are happy to just to get a cheaper than Jap brand radiator. Sounds like it will be fine for what you need. If you want to spend some money than the Greddy radiator is great. Fits perfectly and shroud fits on nicely

The radiator top tank is plastic remember.

I was advided against repairing it when mine cracked. Especially if you are happy to just to get a cheaper than Jap brand radiator. Sounds like it will be fine for what you need. If you want to spend some money than the Greddy radiator is great. Fits perfectly and shroud fits on nicely

The only Greddy radiator I can find online is $1099.!?

Would there be any cooling issues with the koyo oe replacment? Anyone used one?

If you have the standard clutch fan and shroud (assuming fan works fine), you're better off getting something that can use the shroud.

The top tank in my Bravo was plastic and it held up for 4 years with aerodite :)

Just looked like arse :/

They get shipped from Japan.

You should be concerned about the shroud more than the air duct, but if you want to keep the duct, get OEM.

      It just occurred to me. The way I am asking for increasing bite as I slow down (ie more bite the more time on the brakes), that is actually sounding like less initial bite, and hence the bite would feel to increase.

      Sorry, I must've not been clear enough. On my 350GT, the pads originally on the car created dust to high heaven, and did not squeal at any time. I got new low dust pads, that created absolutely NO visible dust, that squealed when cold.  It wasn't  the initial bite, so much as an increase in braking, without extra brake pedal pressure, during a single brake instance. I had to lift off a little as my speed decreased to zero. Loved it! Now on my 370GT, I have to press a little harder as I approach zero. Not hard, just harder. I am too lazy and live in a city block with no room or tools to do it myself, so I would be paying someone to do the switch I looked at the three offerings by Intima, and one of them had a Features line that caught my eye. "Strong initial bite with continual rising coefficient". The problem is that this is on their "Trackday, Time Attack, Sprint" pads, not their day-to-day pads. Its possible that JAX installed track day pads on my 350GT, I just don't know. But I was pretty clear I did not track the car and drove the streets pretty gently. https://intimabrakes.com.au/home-corporate/intima-rr/ I'll send them an email and also check if other pads purport that behaviour.
