Over on Whirlpool in the HomeTheatre thread we have deduced that Bose stands for B(uy) O(ther) S(ound) E(quipment)!

Bose Home Theatres...we have the older ones (more than 15 years old) are awesome for movies...the newer ones from what I've heard, not too great for the price you are paying for. I am probably very picky with sound systems but my R34 sounded better with Focal Polyglass 2 way than the Bose. Again its my opinion and preference.

Basho - I am unsure what expenses your mate is talking about but like the others have said, only the CVT would have a big problem. Other than that, the expenses are your usual bush, control arms etc....like any 10 year old car will have. Getting a 34 would have similar issues. V36 on the other hand are pretty new cars and I have yet seen any big problems on mine that I have to pay a large figure of 3k.

If you are paying that much for a door lock mechanisms, or window motors, you need a new supplier of parts! A quick google search will show you can get a genuine item for far less. As mentioned, a figure of round $2-300 is normal.. If you buy from an Australian Nissan dealer, you will pay 4 times the price and wait about 10 times longer for it.

Very sorry about the hijack it has got a bit out of hand, absolutely unintentional, should give you some encouragement insomuch as that you now know that parts can be had cheaply and that the cars are regarded by the owners at least as rather reliable and spiffy.

Just picked up my V36, and love it. Ive always been into Volvo's and Bmw's. Have own an E39 M5, an E36 M3 Dakar Yellow, with V2supercharger (then a S226 Turbo) owned an E92 M3 for a year. Then i was into volvo's had a 98 S70 T5 5-speed with 20k of work done to it, make 562whp with matching torque. I've always had a soft spot for the VQ35/VQ37 DTB's, early models used to make oil just disappear, but the new models are fantastic!

Mark, I think the V36 will suit you down to the ground. I was in the same situation as you with needing a second car and I went with Iron Chef.

Depending on your height, the sunroof on a SP Coupe can be a problem if you are over 6 foot...

Having said that, I am selling my V36 SP Coupe because I am 6'2" and the sunroof is just too close to my head.

But I will be getting another one immediately through the Chef!!!

My car ticks all the boxes with every option on it. Plus I now have MCA suspension on it and they are fantastic.

Despite what car audio companies tell us, you are never going to get anywhere near High Fidelity in a car regardless of how much money you spend on head units, speakers, amps and the like purely because the sound we ultimely hear from any given source is not the just source sound but how that sound is interacting with its environment, ergo the acoutics of the listening space, and a car with all its glass windows and flat hard surfaces are going to create standing waves (sound reflections) that muddle the sound as they bounce around off those surfaces and bang into each other as well thus creating distortions that ultimately result in poor sound reproduction. Hence I rarely listen to music in a car.

It's amazing how many ex BMW owners have switched to the Skyline, very encouraging. I built my E34 specifically to chew up and spit out E39 M5s which it did until one of the boys in the Bimmer club put the same S/C kit on his E39 M5 and, well, that was a tad different! (What an A*sehole right?)

Thanks Dave, yes I went a drove a couple yesterday that are advertised on Carsales and I'm really impressed with the power, ride and cornering. At least the equal of any BMW I've driven in terms of road holding and cornering confidence.

I am, however, getting a sedan, a coupe is just not practical for me and I've always been a GT sedan guy anyway, always preferred the "sleeper" status of a quick sedan, so there is not even a hint of conundrum for me with regards to coupe/sedan choice.

And yes, I've been speaking to Dave at Prestige Motorsport and I reckon I can get a lot more for my money by importing, and especially so at this time of year, he reckons traditionally the 2 weeks before Christmas is when the year's best bargains are had at the Japanese auctions so here's hoping!

What would you buy, a higher KM (100K+) 370GT or a lower KM 350GT if you were spending my money?

Assuming you are talking all V36 sedans here?? If so, I would probably buy a 350GT, mainly because a late V36 350GT can be had for a much better price than an early V36 370GT sedan. But if money was not a barrier, I would go for a 2010+ V36 370GT.

I was in this situation and so went for the high km (130k) KV36, with the slightly better interior and 3.7/7 speed, for very little more than a lower km PV36. In addition, the KV36's tend to have better paint work, as they got the GT-R self healing paint, so if you check the auction sheets, they have noticibly less scratches identified by the inspectors..

If I had my time again, I agree with sonicii and would hold out for the 2010+ as they have the USB ports, hi-res display screen, better again interior, better looking with front fogs mounted in the lower bumper...

But I do love my car, and am glad I got the newest car I could afford, as I try to do... Being a Brit, I am not scared of a few kms... Got mates who were regularly doing over 50,000 miles a year, and in my last couple of years in the UK I was doing over 20,000 miles a year in my own car.

Thanks very much for the info on the options and specs, if you type the last 7 digits of a BMW VIN into an online VIN decoder, it will show you all the options that vehicle had along with manufacture dates etc. Is there a Nissan equivalent of this?

Yes, the equivalent is FAST and it can be found on many random torrent sites.

If you don't want to bother, go here: http://nissan.epc-data.com/ type the frame number (PV36-XXXXXX) and you'll get all non-standard options in the "spec code" field, hover mouse on each spec code and you'll get a description.

For example, a not bad car was on auction yesterday, the 350GT PV36 Type SP under 25K kms, 4.5B grade with many options PV36-200841

So non-standard options were:

• 2WD/4WAS (2 wheel drive with HICAS(4WAS) )
• TELV7 - BOSE (premium audio)
• SPOI2 - Rear spoiler
• ROOF3 - Sunroof
• LMPQ2 - AFS
• GLSSW - Privacy glass

The newer KV36 do not appear on the free VIN look up sites as the databases they use are too old... My copy of FAST also has the same issue. I know that when I was looking at my car, someone on this site who worked in a Nissan dealership looked it up in their system for me.

Also, I think you will be lucky to get that car landed within your budget have a play with the calculator xls on the Prestige site to get an idea of the additional costs.

and i wasnt looking to get that car, just for an example as I wanted to see why late KV36s do not come up on the system as mine didnt come up either... Do you know where I could get mine checked at all.. just curious to see what options it shows in the system...

Thanks Nick.. that thread helped.. they couldnt get the full details such as options and all like for the earlier cars but got the build date and basic info...

Very helpful thread if anyone want their skyline FASTED (as the thread title say)...
