Im in Perth and the company I found luckily is here too... Panelmate.com.au

Don't know what is available over your way but Im sure someone is doing the same thing over there it's pretty cheap to buy but coming in 2.4m x 1.2m sheets I dare say shipping from here make it too expensive.

If you do use it PM me if you want I've picked up a few tricks to make mounting etc better

In May a trip to Collie for the Antilag supercruise bought goods and unfortunates...

Awesome day all round and always good to meet some people and also get in the car and drive a track I don't drive that often. The car ran double duty with myself and a mate driving ran well

Surprisingly with such a stiff suspension setup ( and couldn't be bothered playing with dampners etc) it handled the tight bumpy track well.... full compression through the esses here think I have the ride height and setup pretty close now

5992612a115d1_Collie17Esses.thumb.jpg.6c9e3daba25df1907c536825f6eb816d.jpg

Later in the arvo after a good morning thrashing my mate got a little butt wild and decided to do a power skid on 295 050's !! biggrin.png

joking ... through the supercruise the below pic says it all. Engine has gone. Although haven't delved right into it seems like unfortunately a simple thing looks to have let down a big thing - a split vac hose lead to overboost and although we have boost cut setup etc seems it was still little bit too much to take. Not catastrophic like a hole in the block like I usually do but enough maybe someone should've tried harder !

Over my hibernation period from now till the sun comes out again there will be a full strip down of the car to check and clean and go on more of a diet, pending funds the already planned aero improvements will be implemented and time for new brakes etc etc

Ok so skip some months since that happened hibernation period is nearly over.... the happenings over my break went a different direction than when i thought it was going to going in but it happens.

Obviously the engine going bang had to be addressed... Ive got a full built rb25 nearly complete and ready to go in. Im not one for writing a big list of every ACL bearing etc but the list is long etc. I'll be running this at the same power levels so looking for more reliability than a bump in power right now.

Im justing waiting on the custom sump to be finished by Luke from Lukes Crazy Speed Shop should be ready this weekend.

The gearbox dilemma wouldnt leave me.... I dont think I'm yet baller enough for sequential or old age sensibility has kicked in a tiny bit but anyway this Rb25 PPG doxbox got delivered during the week. It should provide some better gear changing and more reliability rather than banging poor 25 yr old gearboxes all the time

kJHPMn.jpg

so just waiting for the sump and finish putting it all back together ready for a tune...

Spending funds on that will leave no room yet for a good brake upgrade so new Project Mu rotors and pads all round have been ordered and will have to stop this thing over and over again... seem to do the job pretty well though.

Aiming to be out in early Sept maybe for for a track day to check everything out then more events from there.

Also a side note other funding was taken up but happy to do so we bought back our S14 gravel rally car. We built this 8 years ago sold it about 2 years ago and bought it back a few months ago for a bloody great price from the same guy after he only used it twice on bitumen got over it and put it in the garage. Fun times ahead !!!!

So thats where all this sits right now....

delay in updates but .....

The happenings...

All was finished and put together. Got it dyno'd last week on Hyperdrive roller dyno made 430hp on 17psi low boost and 498hp at 22psi on high boost.

Had it at the tuning day at Barbs yesterday to run in the new brakes and see any teething issues.

It flipped the p/s belt 4 times on high revs giving me some oh shit moments, after that I then took the 75% approach to get some laps in steering wasn't optimal so have to work on that.

Laps went well mainly tried a few things and getting used to gearbox. Gearbox is great on upshift pretty brutal shifting down. Shift light has been setup which does help

Vbox has also been hooked up but had too many other things to concentrate on to learn how to use it yet.

Will get steering sorted next event is 19th Oct - will be on old tyres but be good to have another hitout.

After a couple of successful outings will go back to dyno and wind a few more psi into it

Been a while... stuff and things really

Belt throwing activities got solved by putting standard balancer back on

Been doing some events but not a huge amount really and no huge advancements in the car just little things here and there ... bit boring really. Might have to do something soon

Car is running 560hp 680 nm on 24.5ish psi

Once everything was in a running, went to last Antilag Supercruise.... didnt get many laps was blowing oil (finally got it sorted overfilling sump etc) as new sump acted differently

Been doing a few Infinite time attack nights

All the thoughts and analysis... 'trying to work out how to get some speed out of this thing' quote Days of thunder spec

5ad03271065c4_InfiniteTimeAttackFeb18.jpg.ad46311fb4770c22244fcc4d7a0c5f34.jpg

Managed a 62.4 last time out with Nankangs on the front and bald 050's on the rear.

Work those little brakes hard still, they hold on .... just

Also went to Kebabs and Cars night... good night and turn out, reminded me 1) of the old days and 2) now how old I am

Won a prize and all !

Going to Antilag Supercruise again this sat should be fun and then to Infinite time attack Thursday night , might have new tyres on ...

After that dunno, not really satisfied...but dont know what with or what to do next

Infinite Time Attack night at barbs has happened...

I only got 4 hot laps in ... but I did do a new PB of 61.6 on the second lap of the night which is great, then I spat a powersteering hose near the rack that couldnt be fixed on the night so had to pack up

Great to get a good time the car etc felt great, disappointing not to be able to push it further on the night as I have to say there is a good amount left in it as the car currently stands which I didnt think there would be to be honest

Now the chase is on for a 60 sec lap

Also previous weekend was back at Antilag Supercruise in collie : again a heap of track time, good fun, good people

I got to take passengers out which was fun also as dont do that much.

Had to stiffen the suspension up to hardest to accommodate passenger and old tyres which not optimal but still fun and good little track to test your skills on and belt around.

Managed a 49.2 which is not too shabby.... like everyone else cant wait for the long track !

The bump is gone now, for now at least, here is an ode to it from the weekend things got a bit loose sometimes

Thanks.

Yeah dog box just have to get used to shifting a little differently and be a bit quicker and bang it through a bit more, cleaned the teeth a few times but all good now

MCA's get the tick from me. I still haven't optimized the setup I dont think even after changing out the initial spring rates and adjusting the height a bit after some initial testing... whether its front spring rate or adding some sway bars over stock I decided to not play with it for a while and just drive the nuts off it and it definitely lets me do that with great results still ... its very compliant on the track

in R32 the only previous experience was HSD's and then TIENs and miles better than even the TIEN's

All be it in different car being an s14, so I spose not apples with apples I have driven on KW V3's and a Bilstein package - for mine Reds beat the Bilstien package that was in it and about on par with KW's give or take

So I got bored.... and who needs 4 doors anyway

Ultimately trying to advance the car without the more power bigger brakes sequential thing although thats probably the more tried and proven way.....but after this round of mods I think one of those will be next anyway

will see how it all turns out but with a few other things happening body wise this is intended to turn it into one panel essentially deleting the rear door

it will also replace the need for an overfender, reduce weight, better body line and something something

Also carbon headlight blanks

725908253_Carbonblanks.jpg.d5e3a60314a23076ba347aebc798856f.jpg

chromoly wing bracing to the chassis, the 1st incarnation of the internal mounts that were done was sub-optimal - this makes it rock solid. The wing stays will be changed in time, Im not the hugest fan but they work for now

147388300_Wingstability.thumb.jpg.cf383eed156851ecb456306f54161867.jpg

rear guards are now approx 80mm wider than standard body each side - some other stuff goin on there too ...

1240005722_Carmouldingrear.thumb.jpg.71adf10057801f93ae3ddcd07c551034.jpg

no parachute at the back here ....

the fiberglass panel weighs just under 4kg... the gutted out door alone was 11kg

1574563783_Ongoingwork.thumb.jpg.23ad90612c05a43d288612cd6b7b4ad0.jpg

cleaning up the front a bit... wont be running canards anymore lets face it they dont do much if anything really, cleaned up the flow with tyre spats. Can see carbon lights poking in

also can see how wide the back is from this angle

16983075_Frontendwork.thumb.jpg.4b6fd9387b33e1d24d3662205a179e74.jpg

car will also be a new colour.... obviously previous colour is awesome but given the timeframe and the price of painting it that colour again its a no for now, and change is good right !?

made it to the track the 1202 is with 30ltr fuel and 5 kg race gear

1523246562_Weighinattrack.thumb.jpg.219d1e3d4f6fc6e896f2bc25b2024994.jpg

Race weight for sprint = 1190kg thats car with 20 ltr fuel with me in it its +80kg (me) + 5 kg race gear so total weight 1275kg

(she aint no S13 with sr20 thats for sure) this car starts at 1280 standard

The before and after is below - this is with 45 ltr fuel in the surge and tank - total loss after all this = 38kg

actual weight taken out was around 54kg main bits of extra weight added back for wing bracing, ally tubbing / filling in rear wheel well and then side skirts I calc at about 6kg each so put back in prox 16kg ish - everything still has to be strong and functional

Before:

1567742819_Weightbefore.jpg.34ddb1c99576209d4c881bdf1ed759b0.jpg

After:

859810952_weightafter.jpg.1fa49848edf32be67955b84dd058397a.jpg

Where did the weight come out ?

Headlights: std headlights + indicators 6.3kg put in carbon blanks with ally brackets 1kg = save 5.3kg

No Canards = 1.4kg with nuts and bolts

Cut 3kg off back of the splitter

Door cards: I have ally door cards on the front doors but they were powdercoated both sides combined weight 4kg went to 1mm carbon sheet = 400 g so saved 3.6kg

640956068_Carbondoorskins.jpg.cc6b4165b7b00265b7375dfade424e52.jpg

Carbon intake: metal intake was 1.5kg this intake 300g saved 1.2kg and looks good I think

2126993009_Carbonintake.jpg.1f44ae102b478f87a4ef2ecf69204ed1.jpg

Carbon boot: Standard boot I was running weighed 11kg - the carbon boot is just the skin and weight 1kg on the dot - saved 10kg

199069343_Carbonbootlid.jpg.4c5d58d835740f9192bbcef0efcc0e48.jpg

The rest basically came out of the back taking out the doors and rear guard (right rear had heaps of bog in it), cutting rear bumper etc

Roughly in total the wing, side skirts and splitter add approx 25kg of weight to the car

Really weigh wise and budget etc I think 1160kg so another 30 kg out is feasible but that'll be it, front doors still weight 12kg each, bonnet is still china carbon at 8kgish not 3kg it can be, front splitter and bumper maybe looked at also

At 1160kg, bumper the hp up to over 600 and some slightly bigger front brakes to cope Id say it'd be pretty wild - for me at least .... still running H pattern though

Iface page can be followed at Brandis Racing R32 Skyline for those keen

Unfortunately the track outting was cut short by a steering issue I had one sighting lap that was still relatively quick and half a hotlap

time to get back in the seat and learn some new things about the car and just give it a go again
