Hey all, I have recently been wanting to learn how to drift, luckily my mate owns a factory with lots of land on it so i can practice. Its only an R33 GTS but i thought i would give it a crack. So I took it out for a spin the first time and had fun doing little skids and just taking it slow. At one stage I got a little bit cocky so i took the corner a little wider and ended up spinning out the car and stalling it. It hesitated to start for about 5 seconds but then it was fine. Im a little paranoid as this was my first time losing traction going sideways. Can spinning out do any sort of damage to your car?

F.Y.I. My car is auto (I know I know, I'm putting a manual box in it as soon as i can afford one :P )

Thrash harder.

Don't ask silly questions like if spinning out can damage your car.

Spin it out and find out for yourself.

Where is the factory, maybe you can get some others to show you how it's done.

I'll be happy to make the interstate LOL
Yeah i can't see anything happening to your car just by spinning it out while drifting. Of course you're going to spin out while learning. Just try not to hit a wall or someone else's car because insurance won't cover it. But if you flog a car doing any type of driving something will go snap soon. but that's a different question.

Lol I would happily let you use it if it was mine but he's more of a family friend. And fair enough I guess your right :P anything could go snap if you thrash it enough. And to vetter, I don't really have my licence yet because I have epilepsy, so I just mainly work on cars and learn. But if you have somewhere private you could teach me then I'd say yeah sure no worries :)

There are only a few things that can damage your car, suprisingly enough spinning doesn't actually do any mechanical damage apart from blowing off some tires, Dead-hooking can snap axles/diff's etc (hopefully axles first) And harsh undulations in side loading over rough pavement can shorten the life of hubs/bearings etc, but other than that skid away

    • As above, can't rely on rubber belts too much when you're hitting OVER NINE THOUSAND !!!11!! revs, so electric conversion (Astra as mentioned above) is the way to go.
    • I highly recommend spending a lot of time searching the posts here. There is literally decades worth of information here, and whatever you can think of has been done (besides maybe quad-rotor AWD into a Skyilne chassis). Like, there was someone with an AWD Silvia and a crazy built SR20, and I've personally seen an R31 Skyline (Australian spec) with R32 GT-R running gear (including AWD).
    • Dragging some reo behind a ute or trailer will smooth out a dirt road, I've used reo a few times to do unsealed road maintenance when we didn't have any plant available  It's best done when the dirt is wet though, and then you just let it dry out for a day to harden up For wetting the dirt I've used some 44 gal drums in a ute or trailer, and a water pump connected to a hose with a old sprinkler tied to the reo to wet the material down whilst spreading Basically just drive slowly up and down the road a few times dragging a few sheets of reo wired together with the sprinkler wetting it all down as you go
