Hi Guys,

So I have a R33 GTST and have noticed that the air-con only blows cold air when the car is moving. Its most effective at higher speeds, say 80kmph to 90kmph. The fan infront of the radiator doesnt turn on but I havnt spent too much time just watching it. What would cause this issue?

btw, I know theres another thread that I read a while ago on some website but I cannot find it, so if someone can link that it would be appreciated. Or answer the question here :)

Thanks

Sounds like the condensor is in a poor state at a rough guess. Might cost you $20 or so but take it to an auto elec and get them to throw some gauges on it and make sure the gas is all good.

But to me if it works fine when travelling at decent speeds, id sort out your condensor fan and give it a clean out with a pressure cleaner. Just be careful not to hit the fins at an angle or you will wreck it. Hold the spray straight on the fins

Pretty sure the condenser fan only comes on when engine temp gets to hot unless you put a diode to it from the ac relay, yet if your condenser doesn't have a fan blowing over it then your ac will be alot crapper than if it did.

See the link above that was posted 20 seconds before me

OP has an R33, the DIY relates to an R32

I think the fan comes on with Air Con when certain parameters are met on R33, but can't say for sure. Either way, mine works fine everywhere, and I have ridiculous amounts of exhaust heat near the air con pipes, so It sounds a little bit like condensor problem anyway.

Is there a fair bit of water coming out of the drain all the time? No smell of stale water etc in the car?

I am only assuming the fan isnt working as it seems like when there is air passing through, the air-con is really cold but when standing still its just blowing normal air.

Ive had no stale smells, and havnt noticed much water from the car even though I run the air-con twice for atleast an hour these days.
