...hey and more power to them if they can afford it, i cant so in no way can justify the expense if i aint going to enjoy it by driving the wheels off the thing :D

true or what if the latest Autosalon magazine was out at the newsagant and for some reason the postman was late delivering you subscription copy and your cuz Rocky had told you there was a fully sik WRX in it making 1100awkw and you had to rush to get it before your other cuz Mario did so you could quote the specs of it on fast fours forum and look fulleee sik

No-one with a clue is going to doubt the cred of your car Leewah, and it sees the strip. That much power takes some coconuts to unleash too :D. Takes a bit to pilot that sort of power on a circuit and they were running decent numbers in the winfield GTR's. The benefit is in just get the handling OK for the corners then feed it in the straights (so I am told but I have zero experience there) to sledgehammer the opposition. Longhursts BMW was killing them in the corners. All told a drag setup will not suit corners well anyway.

RICE is, "I want my car to be such-n-such because it will give me an ego boost." Rice is modifications that don't/(society doesn't think) have a worthwhile purpose, which ranges from stickers to bitey clutches that mean you arc the wheels up everytime you leave the lights to huge power outputs on street driven or showcars.

Power ratings would be better understood if they were follwed by "@xxxxrpm" and a torque rating. Most people will understand if you tell them the car has a 1800rpm powerband as long as you tell them it's a specific track car but don't expect them not to laugh if you tell them it's your everyday car.

The main reson I find rwKW handy is to see what differance to power your mods make. As well as an easy way to compair you car to others. Yes 1/4 mile times would be better, but personally I have taken my car to the drags and probably never will. So the only stat I have for the car is the mods and the rwKw.

The first time I put a car on the dyno was my old 260z, it had some mods from the previous owner. I did a few things to it as well. I stared with 77rwKW and ended up with 96 rwKWw. Compared to my stock R32 GTS-T doing 140 rwkw there is a big differance, but what I look at is the change after mods (ie 19kw increase).

Theres two simple reasons that some big hp cars don't hit the track:

1) its intimidating for first timers (circuit or drag, take your pick)

2) they have nothing to gain and everything to lose....

Comparing mod changes is a definite use. But comparing to other cars? Give u can indication but the other cars weight and tyres would probably make things very comparable.

Personally, i'm going to try and make my car fast WITHOUT increasing rwkw's, (suspension/tyres/brakes) and then make it like Joel said, lots of lowdown/mid range power/torque.

You gotta have a goal i think for it not to be rice. If you wanna run 9 secs, or do less than 1min around a certain track, etc. Just doing it for the number sake would most probably classify it as rice.

1/4 quite frankly isn't very comparable for a cars abilities. A real track is a much better indication, a real track being one with turns. Because 95% of the cars at SAU are ROAD cars, with a little track time. Meaning, to be able to compare cars a real track time is a much better indication as it encompasses everything you would do on a road.

Every part of the car is tested, unlike a drag. I think Gojira makes a very good point about rwkw getting to the stage of being rice.

that said... i picked up a used aircraft turbo for $40 the other day... it says T11 on it... hmmmm :D

um, yes :cheers: too many people talk about rwkw these days when a car is so much more than how much it can put out sitting on a dyno spitting out a peak speed at 9/10 before redline. Lots of the time these seem to also be the posers out there, who spend all the money on the bling - and those that do seem to have a fast car, probably just picked up the car already done from somebody else who spent way too much on paying somebody else to make it fast. I mean there are intelligent chequebook racers, but likewise there are plenty of ****ing dumb ones out there.

I know on here (as an example) there are some more of the "originals" that actually like doing hard runs, drifting, mountain runs, track days, legal drag racing, and all the rest that actually use the car to its full ability - that is traction, low-down power, handling, or whatever they think is worthwhile. Not just those driving a dyno graph, but wanting to know how this is going to effect their car where they want to use it. But these I notice on here are becoming increasingly the minority. Funnily enough there are a lot that just like to read but never have attended one of these things in their life - probably because they are too busy doing laps or trying to look "cool" to their mates or the superficial chicks around them.

Seems like a lot the time there is quite a few out there with a lot of money and no brain cells also.. but hey :D

What else shall it be termed for "those that throw countless money at the car without really knowing the why, or the why should, or why they should spend the money on this rather than that, or what is the most important or... ".

Everybody knows the type "my car puts out xxx rwkw, and I just spent $50,000 on this car" - now you ask them what exactly has been done, and why its been done, and they are "ermm.. i dunno really but its FULLY SICK and blows away PORSCHES".
