Modern temp sensors (ie Bosch) are insulated from the plenum, they are also a lot faster in response. The factory location is perfect, and about as close to the engine as you can get.

So this is the temp sensor that I have ordered: -

along with a resistor to make the ECU think it's OEM across the range I feel is important.

If that GM sensor is the one that is not waterproof and you don't want it to be after the water spray, then your best bet is to install a mounting boss for it on the cooler pipe after the cooler but before the spray.

Yes, that was the plan! :-)

Hopefully it's not going to give bad results off boost though if it's that far from the plenum.
