Been working on the Dayz for a while but have not been anywhere near the stop lights. Both the upper and lower. All of a sudden they come `on as soon as I connect the battery.( I dont have a spare battery so jump the RS4) the stop lights come on. All switches are off and releasing the hand/foot brake does SFA.

Any ideas please?

Stop light switch under the brake pedal stuck. It may have moved or simply stuck in the on position. Try to move it by hand - make sure it is not contacting the pedal (if it is it needs adjusting). If its not it may just be stuck down. Last resort try unplugging it.

Clearly a while since I stuck my head under the dash! Switch is on your side of the brake pedal lever so would need to be out of adjustment to be stuck on. Still plug to disconnect (if necessary) is reasonably accessible (or better still get a young fellow to do it)!

You are right. Need a midget to get under. I think 75 is a bit too long in the tooth to do all this.

most probably the rubber stopper for the switch has perished. this has happened a few times lately with the s1's i know of (probably the QLD heat and age of the rubber). easy replacement as they are off the shelf from nissan. i can check it out for u if u want Hugh.
