Hi Guys,

I want to install a LC1 wideband into my R32 GTST, and was after some advice on the best way to do it. Should I install it in the NB factory location and wire up the factory plug for the power, NB emulation, ground ? Also where is the best location to route the cable into the cabin. Any advice would be appreciated

What do the instructions that came with the kit say? My AEM kit gave specific instructions for where to mount it, something like at least 1m away from the turbine outlet and at least a 10 degree above the vertical.

I think it does work in the stock location, but it isn't the best spot to put it. I can see how it might be an issue, with the extra heat that would be right at the exit. AFR's will be the same the length of the exhaust pipe, its the delay in having the sensor at the back compared to at the front, obviously it does take a little bit of time for the exhaust gas to get to the end of the exhaust pipe

I would look at the instructions and see what it says. If you mount it in a different location then you can run it through the gearshifter hole, this is where I ran mine (its mounted about half a metre pre-cat from memory)

It would really be helpful to see some sort of wiring diagram that innovate give with the sensor. I could look it up and see, but I can't really be bothered right now. I'm hoping you have at least had a look at what it says before making this thread.......?

I looked at the manual just now. Read that, the answer to all your questions are there amazingly......

Turbocharged Vehicles:

Install the bung downstream from the turbo before the catalytic converter. The high exhaust pressure before the turbo interferes with the lambda measurement and the high exhaust temperatures encountered there can damage the sensor.

The factory NB is in the down pipe that is coming off the turbo, I could get a bung put in I suppose and run it up through the gearshifter hole and power it via cigarette lighter? What 12V source and ground did you tap into?

Just thought I could replace the NB and use the LC1 NB emulation , but thats imperative

I installed one on my stagea just before the cat, then ran the cable up through a hole in the transmission tunnel (drilled a hole).

The "proper" way to power it is to wire a relay to the battery, then activate the relay via a 12v source when the key is in the on position. This ensures you know how much current is flowing through a circuit, whereas if you draw 3 amps through an existing circuit, that may blow the fuse, create a voltage drop etc

For me, the cigarette lighter turns on with accessories, so not desirable. Test yours with a multimeter to be sure.

A workshop manual will have wiring diagrams which you can use to find an "ON" position 12v source.

Always mount it away from the turbo outlet, as prolong heat exposure will kill the sensor. Just get an exhaust shop to weld the bung before the cat but after the turbo.

I ran my cabling up through the stock EGT probe for the dashlight.

I just used the ignition source under the steering column for all wideband installs I do. Works a treat, just use a clean ground, preferably on the cars body instead of a shared ground.

straight off the thick cable off the ignition barrel into a 5 amp fuse :)

I might have a photo at home.

    • I would not be surprised if you are the only person on earth that has the interest/desire to do that lol.  The Haltech base map is a really good starting point, the car will fire easily and drive very well, even on mild boost levels. To me, following your advice sounds like some sort of ancient Chinese water torcher lol (this is not an insult Josh, never change <3)
    • Those car show concepts from the 2000's and 2010's like the Floria and IDx were brilliant and should've gone ahead, at least one of them. But neither Honda nor Nissan are thinking about affordable performance any more, which is truly sad.  Even if Toyota's liquid hydrogen ICE development reaches the point where it's commercially viable and the infrastructure to support it, Honda/Nissan would have to wait until Toyota allow fee access to their patents to offer it with any smaller performance models they released to take advantage of it.  
    • A sporty manual RWD coupe with a IL4 Honda engine would only be a good thing I assume we won't see anything released for a few years though, unless informal talks and designs have been going on for a few years,  and due to the current, and future, emmisions and safety requirements, I assume anything "sporty" they would do would be at least some hybrid thingie And hopefully anything they are thinking of has nice lines, without lots of plastic and fake bits hanging off it like that horrendous FK8 that looked like it was designed by a 13 year old The other issue of course in the current market is cost, currently the type R is around $70k, a twin is around $50k Meh, I'm old and grumpy and would rather buy a older model car and waste my coin on that than buying anything currently available new
