CNR33
Hey guys I'm new to the boards, although I've been reading for quite a while. Bought myself an R33 about 6 weeks ago, love it to pieces, but i guess someone else didn't share my passion. Found it keyed to the shi!thouse across the boot and one loooong line from about the fuel tank to the driver side mirror. Not impressed. Managed to give her a nice polish, came up well, but in two spots, it was keyed REALLY deep. I've touched up the paint, didn't come up as well as i'd hoped. I'm tempted to get the whole car resprayed. I'm a little hesitant to do that tho, as the rest of the paint is in tip top condition. I'm from Macleod and was wondering if you guys had any ideas or any good places in mind to get it done, as well as what prices I should be expecting. Cheers
JAPCAB
i'm sorry to hear this, that is a real shame; especially on your new line. My mate had similar done to his car, keyed from petrol tank cover to front qtr panel......and some other jerk keyed the boot aswell. What you can do before respraying is give this company a call, they are called 'Chips away', they specialise in repairing areas of paint work on cars. The good thing is that they come to you, and if you provide them with teh correct paint, the guys will sand back the area, prepare it etc etc and they bring an airbrush with them and they spray the area. My old man got this done on his holden and they did a superb job, you cant even notice the scratch that was there and they blend in the paint really well so you cant notice it. Cost around $300 to do a couple of scratches but much cheaper than a respray. www.chipsaway.com.au, give them a call and have a chat. With regards to respray, this depends on the type of paint etc, your probably looking at $2500 for your basic respray Hey guysI'm new to the boards, although I've been reading for quite a while. CNR33
Thanks very much for that. Another mate of mine bought a burgandy one that was already keyed, same places, but got it resprayed. That's a good compromise i think, as the rest of the car is fine. Do we have a serial keyer on our hands? In the words of Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction "It'd be worth him doing it, if I could have caught him..."
JAPCAB
Yeah i daresay there are some serial keyers......there have been countless posts on here about people getting keyed or getting their car broken into. 2 of my mates have been keyed alone......and in and around melbourne i have noticed other skylines with some nasty keying on em, the favourite spots seem to be boot/side.....probably as they walk past they get ur boot and side in one go. Bastards. Unfortunately there is no stopping the dickheads; the only thing you can do is be mega paranoid about where you park your car.
inark
funking wankers... if i ever catch any cun7 near anyone of my cars with a key i'll bat their knees and brake their ribs and face... nothing pisses me off more than people with no respect for other peoples pride and joy. if u do respray it keep it in the garage to stop it happening again

If i ever catch them, i'll 'key' them in a way that can't be resprayed... :Bang: Thanks for the imput guys. I'm going to get Chips Away to come out in the next week or three. I can't stand having it scratches all along, breaks my heart every time I walk past. Couple of hundred dollars (that will improve the resale price) is cheap to have that fixed. Thanks again

I also noticed you live in macleod, which has become famous for the epa test station. so if you ever get epa'ed you wont have to drive far for the test. Funny you should mention that... I live about 25 metres from the EPA.... i have to crawl into my street of a day The guy that sold me the car offered me the 6'' muffler that came with it, and told me the EPA made him take it off, something tells me it was wise to leave it off... :burnout: I'm going to call them today to see when they can come and see the car. Thanks for the feedback, makes me feel a lot more comfortable about getting it done.

Is that reasonable? I've just finished doing a full re-trim of the boot, so i'll post of pics of that and the new paint job when its done. Yeah it is spooky driving down there(springthorpe/old mont park), i'm devastated that they've put those three roundabouts on the straight stretch to plenty rd... :boohoo:

JAPCAB
Hehe good to hear you got it fixed! I take it they did a good job? $430 isn't too bad compared to a respray that would set you back a few K...i guess with the respray u can chose a wild color but that probably increases your 'key-ability' rating amongst the turds who drive their mums banged up camira and get jealous when they see your immaculate line shimmering in a carpark. I guess from now on try not to park your car anywhere if possible!
JAPCAB
sorry my bad - i mis read your post... yeah i guess $430 isn't too bad, let us know how it went once its fixed, they will do a good job though - its these guys business to do a good job and thats what they specialise in. CNR33
Hey all Had Chips Away come out to my place on friday and I am officially key free! The guys did such a good job, I would recommend them to anyone. They quoted me $430, but took $390 cash on the spot which helped. I was a bit hesitant letting them do it, but it came out perfect, you could never tell it'd been keyed! A HUGE thanks to JAPCAB for pointing me in their direction. I'll have some pics asap. I did sh!t myself a bit when they resprayed the boot, while it was half open, with my brand new retrim unprotected, but there were no problems. Thanks to everyone else for your sympathy, much appreciated, the money was well spent and brings a smile to my face every time i walk to the car. AutoTrust
That sucks, good to see it sorted, did you get before and after shots of the damage??
CNR33
That sucks, good to see it sorted, did you get before and after shots of the damage?? Got a few after shots, before, I'd already touched it up with the 'correct' (my arse) paint. Took one shot touched up and polished, still noticeable. I should have taken a shot when it was keyed down to the metal. Ah well, one memory I won't miss...
JAPCAB
Great to hear you got it sorted out; on your initial post you were totally spewin about it! (as you would) $390 is pretty good - post us some pics if you can!
