Remove Starter Motor

After 18+ years the starter has given up. The actual motor goes round but the bendix does not engage.

It is the RS4 that has an FFP fitted. Is there any way of getting to the top bolt without having to take the plenum off?

Long extension with universal joint? Best done from under the car IIRC

definitely get it from under the car. you might be able to get it with a regular ring spanner, if not a stubby spanner will definitely get in there.

If it is too tight to undo with the short spanner just use a short piece of rope thru the end of the spanner and pull downwards, that will give you enough leverage.
