Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has taken the factory triple cluster in the 32 GTR and replaced the cluster with aftermarket gauges, now before you rage out and rant about searching, im not after the DEFI din gauges.

I bought volt/oil temp/boost gauges and even fabbed up a triple gauge cluster so that it retains as much of the stock look as i could, my question is can i wire them into the standard wire harness that usually connects to the factory triple cluster din? Obviously the boost gauge will get its own line going to the boost gauge control unit on the firewall.

Has anyone done something similar again WITHOUT using the DEFI sending units or DEFI gauges.

Here is a photo of the cluster i found on google, again mine has factory reading gauges not the AFR, Oil Pressure.maxresdefault.jpg

Hey Cardo

Voltage gauge should at least give a reading. Boost gauge needs to go to the map sensor that came with it if there was one.

For oil temp you could attempt it to the stock wiring. It should at least give you a number.

Plug in the laptop and compare the laptop oil temp to whats on your new gauge, if it's the same, super happy bonus for you but even if it was off by ten degrees,

If you learn what you're oil "normally" gets to you can spot overheating just as well as if it was accurate. For example if it always showed 92 degrees oil on the highway and one day it showed 120 something's up. Just set your alarms up and wait for a red.

When wiring stuff like this in the dash either leave a bit of length on the plugs you cut off or tee into the wires rather than cutting them, that way the factory stuff can always be put back later.

Attached are my actual photos.

I have the senders for oil temp and boost, but i was thinking since the gauges are all electrical i should just be able to use existing power lines to the factory cluster and solder them in place ( T style so i dont cut the factory harness up too bad ) once ive found if its a viable option or not.

As far as whats normal haha the factory gauges dont really give the best indication of whats what. i just know the needle points to one line above 70 in oil temp and goes above it slightly at running temps. and boost go past the +7 so i have no idea there, im assuming factory is 14 psi from what ive read with boost restriction removed as mine is bone stock. so as far as normal for oil im assuming its around 79-86 degree mark.

by the way thanks for the reply i really appreciate it.
