Hello all you knowledgeable people out there.

As the topic says, the shaft on my m35 is stuffed on the front diff end. So much so that the gearbox specialist at Sunstate Gearbox and diff advised not to put it back as it will chew out the diff.Consequently,I now have a rear wheel drive m35 while we look at options. Problem is that the splines on the transfer case end are rare, not known in any of the parts books at the diff place.Next problem there are none at Nissan anywhere in Oz,and the quote to get one in from Japan was $900.00.

I was wondering if any one else has had this problem and what did you do to overcome it?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

What exactly is the problem? If the driveshaft is similar to (not necessarily identical to ) the C34 one it is just the universals that wear out and they can be replaced. Are you saying that the splines on the driveshaft have some how got damaged? What part costs $900? Will a second have driveshaft fix your problem?

Brick,I tried Scotty first,but he doesn't have one

Daleo, Sunstate tried the better builders that they know, sent it to Brisbane, and also rang Sydney ones,

but none are interested in this one.Basically they think to make one would cost more than ordering one.

That's why I was hoping someone else has had the same problem.

I.m open to any other suggestions,but it looks like I will have to order a new one in.

I"m not in favour of a 2nd hand one,it could have the same problem.

You still haven't said what's wrong with it. If its just the universals a driveshaft specialist can machine out the old ones and put in new ones. Have you priced a new one from Nissan to use as a yardstick?

He mentioned $900 from Japan, none is Aus.

I have a second hand one in the wreck, it has the same front uni shot. Common issue. I think it's just a matter of finding a driveshaft specialist that has a clue, but I am yet to find one.

It's coming in at $500- $590ish on Amayama, depending on what country it comes from; why not enquire with them and see what a total with shipping will be?

I'm betting less than $900.

Why is it so hard to look for Genuine Nissan parts online? We don't live in the age of steam...

Mate you're on the Sunny Coast, drive her up to Nambour.

Farrows Shafting Service, Mill Lane, 54417277

It would be very strange for the transfer case spline drive to worn, most likely the peened-in style universal joints.

Clearance issues are the problem with a front shaft but Farrows can modify ANYTHING and prices are excellent.

It's a good idea to take the car, not just the shaft and then he'll put it over the pit and realise the tight fit, can't just use any old yokes or they'll hit the sump.

I had the yoke chew out on mine, I took it to driveline services australia 56 Colebard Street East, Acacia Ridge QLD 4110 phone 07 3275 7600, they needed the car for most of the day, and they custom made a new yoke with uni's to fit, the price was around $800, they said they also have the same problems with the v35 skyline, but the ,35 has a little more space at the front

Jiffo, the splines in fact were ok,it is the uni joint that is the problem

it is a unique size not avail in oz.

phat 300, for that sort of price i'd rather spend the little extra and buy genuine'and

save the 2-3 hours travel(round trip) from the sunny coast to south Bris.

Anyhow

I've ordered from the dealer up here,I should get in about 7-10 days from now.

Hi,  mine was rooted. Also quoted $900. Took it to marine and turbo in Nelson(NZ). They rebuilt both ends. drilled out old uni's, welding diff ends (had been chewed out) new uni's, painted and balanced. $550. Really nice job.
