We think it got fractured in a prior accident or the clever person who replaced the bearings in the alternator a few months back overtightened the belt. Most likely the first theory.

Holy sheet man, top effort :) Doesn't look like there was too much damage though, just fan, shroud, radiator and obviously the pump itself. Was the fan wedged into the rad or did it hit that then go for a trip around the engine bay?

That 50c piece floating around your water pump wouldn't have done it any favours.

How bad was the accident prior?

I recently had a little ding that allowed the fan to kiss the radiator then bounce back.

It left marks in the radiator which was replaced. The fan was still fine though.

This has got me worried. :)

Joel, the accident you describe is absolutely identical to the one this vehicle had - the fan merely touched the radiator, cutting a few pipes open, sufficiently enough to warrant radiator replacement. If you see the damage to the radiator now, the accident caused less damage. Go and replace that pump or ensure the belt isn't FT.

Revhead - Fan new from Nissan $93

Water pump new from Nissan $129

Brass/copper radiator new from Ferntree Gully Radiators $300

A day of me being pissed off having to fix the car again - priceless.
