The speed of the shift is determined by the ability of he synchros to engage the gear, not the throw of the lever.

Therefore, with a short shifter, the speed is not faster, however the wear on the synchros is higher. Lose lose scenario. And costs money. Lose lose lose.

If you want to get a more solid feel I would recomend the nismo solid shifter it's only a 10% shorter throw but its a solid piece so it will fix the slop in the standard shifter. I really can't see a 10% shorter shifter wrecking your synchros after all my GTT has had a proper short shifter in it for nearly 8 years and the gearbox still works fine.
