I have been looking around and I may be blind but I can not find any information about increaseing the dual stage boost on my r34

I actually like the idea and drive of haveing low boost then higher boost at 4200 rpm and I would like to keep this format but just increase it. Say instead of 4 on low running 6 then from 7 on high to 10 which I believe is the recommended boost for stock turbo

Price doesn't fuss me. I just want it to be done right. Is it something simple like a retune/ reprogram or if I need to buy aftermarket parts. If so what?

If you havnt gathered I'm not a mechanical person I just love my 34 GTT and would like a little more out of it

I don't know why people want two stages of boost but if you do you try putting a restrictor in the line that goes to the actuator. That would be a cheap solution although you would need to experiment with the size of the restrictor and bore it out if you are getting too much boost.

Or you could replace the stock solenoid with an aftermarket boost controller.

The trouble is once you get a taste for more power you become addicted and want more so you could just send your turbo to Hypergear and get a Nistune chip and the other bits and pieces to go with 280KW!

In actuality though.....if you were to try to achieve the OP's goal, you could tee just about any other manual boost bleeder into the line to let a little bit more air out and so raise the setpoint of both the factory solenoid closed and open settings.

The next most sophisticated way to do it would be to bin the factory solenoid, install a typical EBC with a remote trigger input. Install an RPM switch which can trigger the boost controller to change from the low to the high setting at the desired RPM. There's even boost controllers out there that have the functionality built right in. I would expect that almost no-one uses it though!

I have been curios as to why I can't find any info on people trying this.

The car is stock except for pod filter and 3inch highflow exhaust.

I have 4k I could spend on it. Is the hypergear option what you would recommend.

whats the possible reason to wanting lower boost within your mid range?
do you enjoy lag?

do you think your gonna spin the wheels under 4000k? and if so can you not control it with your throttle?

Long time ago I had a boost controller wit 2 stages built in it. It was a simple setup and you can easily buy one today. Ill look for it as.i feel I still have it to this day. It had a little switch that what ever you set the two stages to it would active the second setting. But one of.the best boost controller I have ever used in my life was by world electronic it was call a TBC. It goes for like 1k now and its touch screen. I was ridiculed for buying it. But no one would understand how great itnis until fully understanding how it first works and the advantages of a electronic boost controller over a manual one. But ayway a little off topic there. It had a scrabble boost setting. You could have armed it to last for a predetermined time like 10 seconds. So ill be driving along and a friend pulls up on the side of me. We start the race hit the scrabble boost botton and there he went. By no means do I encourage illegal street racing here. I was young and dumb then. :D

Buy a turbosmart dual stage boost controller, wire the dual stage up to the stock solenoid wiring (through a relay if necessary) and then adjust your low and high. Will give you whatever you set your low boost at till the ECU triggers the stock wiring which will switch it to high boost

I'm with the other guys, not really sure why you wouldnt just run the high boost setting all the time, but I suppose you may find the 'kick' from a sudden boost increase appealing. Anyway, its not a hard thing to do

I am with every one else if you want a decent setup to get the most out of the stock turbo I recomend just the basics, electronic boost controller, nistune ecu and retune could add a bigger intercooler if you wanted as well. Should be able to run about 10-12psi depending how good your clutch is and this setup won't cost you any more then $2,000

    • Oh, yeah, look - here's the thing. You always replace the tensioner when you're going in there to replace a belt....under normal circumstances. You want to make sure it is good and safe, and that you don't create a reason to take the front of the bloody motor apart again. But in this case, OP is replacing a belt that has aged out on time, not usage. The belt is a million miles away from aging out on usage. The belt gets a time "limit" merely because it is made of rubber and can degrade naturally. The tensioner? Not so much. I reckon it could last forever on the current usage pattern. So I reckon if the thing is going to continue to get used at the same rate, replacing the tensioner is somewhat gratuitous. Would I replace it if I was doing it on my car right now? Hell yes. Because my car does 10-20 thousand kays a year. So it's all going to be the same thrashedness. Would I YOLO it on OP's car. More than likely.
    • I dunno. I think any one of those from each side to sump is probably enough. Remember - this is about creating a path for gas flow up from the sump to the cam covers. That gas flow then has to leave via the lines to the catch can. There's probably little point in providing 100% more capacity from sump up to covers cf. what you have from there to the catch can. Put in the 3 convenient ones? Any which way that you see fit. That'd be my thoughts.
    • Getting holes drilled into to cam covers and AN10 fitting welded on. My sump has 2x AN10 fittings on it already. These are the options I have come up with that can be done without needing to remove the sump to add more fittings. In all options front of passenger side cover connects to VCT head drain bung (i know this isn't the best spot but my feeling is it must do something). Option 1 (pink). The back of each cam covers gets its own line to sump. Option 2 (blue). The back of each cam covers are linked and share a line to sump. The front of drivers side gets its own line. Option 3 (Black). Drivers side are Tee'd together and share a line to the sump. Passenger side rear gets its one line to the sump.
    • I'd be surprised if Nissan doesn't mention it in the manual as it seems unlikely that a tensioner is going to last 200,000km.
    • Tapin,    So got mine up and realize a few things. First was my slave line doesn’t reach the other side, so I have to get a longer hose made. I want to ask did you have to extend your wires for the CD009 sensors? One on the driver side(right side of car looking at the car from the rear) and one on the passenger side( the left side of car from rear). And do you know what those two sensors are respectively? I know it’s not Speedo since we talked on this already. And I may have to separate the trans again to swap out throw out bearing. We will see. Did you run your RB slave cylinder? I know you cracked your original but replaced it with a nismo. But wasn’t sure if you bought the one designed for the CD009 or not. Thanks
