IM-32-FK
I had this issue come up yesterday, when i press the clutch pedal all the way in, then release it, it makes a loud single clicking sound. Only happens as soon as i release the pedal. I checked underneath and used some silicon lube spray on the large round spring and some on the piston rod that goes into your firewall but after pumping it a few times, it comes back. I also noticed the little plastic things where the round pedal spring sits are broken It makes this sound 8/10 times i use the clutch pedal. Recently had my master and slave replaced. I checked the welds above and they didnt look cracked. What can it be?!? I made a little video so you can exactly see what is going on. IM-32-FK
i figured out that the master cylinder and the bracket it sits on that connects to the firewall in your engine bay is pushing in and out as i pump the clutch pedal. Already tightened the 2 nuts on it but it still moves out when i pump the pedal. How would i go fixing this? GTSBoy
Master cylinder stopper (a bolt on bracket that bolts to the suspension tower and stops the MC moving forward) would help.....but if it's all moving enough to make noise, there must be something wrong enough that band-aiding it with a stopper would be silly. Look for cracks in the firewall, etc. Find and fix. Look for cracks in the firewall, etc. Find and fix. Couldn't find any cracks but i *may* have fixed the problem. I pulled back the bolt on the clutch switch nearly all the way back and tightened it. Pumped it a few times and drove it around the block and the sound was gone. I also noticed even though i pulled that bolt back quite a bit, i still havent got any free play on the clutch pedal. Does this mean my clutch is always disengaged so it might cause it to slip and burn my clutch eventually? What else can i play with to loosen up my clutch pedal a bit so i have at least half an inch of freeplay? here are a couple of pictures Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/454723-loud-single-clicking-noise-when-clutch-pedal-is-released/#findComment-7496890 Share on other sites
GTSBoy
The clevis adjuster in your second pic is the place to adjust free-play. If you have none, then depending on how negative the amount, you will either be; only just loading up the throwout bearing, or Applying enough pressure to the throwout to actually start disengaging the clutch. The first is bad enough, it leads to the throwout having a VERY short life. The second would be worse, but it's actually unlikely that you could apply enough force to make it slip much unless the clutch was marginal for the amount of torque being applied to it anyway. IM-32-FK
So what do you recommend i should do? Didnt smell any clutch after driving for half an hour Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/454723-loud-single-clicking-noise-when-clutch-pedal-is-released/#findComment-7496974 Share on other sites
jiffo
Have a closer look at your clevis and push rod. ' From the photo I think the end of the push rod is actually rubbing against the pedal arm, think I can see some shiny metal on the arm. It may be adjusted incorrectly and the pedal arm is actually doing the pushing on the push rod, not the clevis. Then when you release the pedal, the push rod follows out and at some point clicks as it takes up the slack in the clevis pin. IM-32-FK
Ok i played around with it and got it working better. I can still hear a light metal grinding sound though when i initially push down the pedal. Can i put some grease where the clevis rod is and some on the clevis too? Hopefully that will finally fix it Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/454723-loud-single-clicking-noise-when-clutch-pedal-is-released/#findComment-7497501 Share on other sites
GTSBoy
A little smear of lithium grease on the rubbing parts* cannot hurt. *Note this is not true for all things in life. IM-32-FK
Im not sure which one is lithium grease but i got this thick red one and i also got silicon spray Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/454723-loud-single-clicking-noise-when-clutch-pedal-is-released/#findComment-7497511 Share on other sites
GTSBoy
Lithium grease is available in spray cans too. The best stuff for aiming down a tube (like your silicone spray) and putting grease more or less where you want it* and having it stay. Don't use the silicone spray. It's not useful for this sort of thing. You could the bearing grease you have (the red stuff), if you can push a bit up there on a finger tip. *Of course it also tends to go everywhere else! IM-32-FK
man, what the hell is going on. It was hard with little freeplay when i was going to work this morning and now its soft as shit with a ton of freeplay now. Im done with it. Im just gonna ride it out and see what happens. 3rd gear is knocking anyway. Thanks for all the help Edited March 17, 2015 by IM-32-FK Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/454723-loud-single-clicking-noise-when-clutch-pedal-is-released/#findComment-7498460 Share on other sites
jiffo
You didn't report on how the adjusting went. You can see in your photo, the clevis isn't even in line with the push rod, it's bent up. The push rod is usually tapped into the clevis for adjustments, the locknut just follows down and is nipped up once the settings are correct. I wonder if you got the wrong master cylinder as that clevis looks very short. Not much adjustment before the end of the push rod is hard against the pedal which will then jamb and cause the clevis to bend. Im just going to leave it like this, its got at least 6 months warranty anyway. Right now ive got alot of free play and the pedal feels soft now.
