Need Advice Re Buying Engine Out Of Car

Guys,

I am currently looking at an engine at the moment that has been pulled from a car. Now apparently its been rebuilt with forged pistons, block looks acid bathed, their is still white texta markings on the condrods from re-assembly, CP pistons can be seen, new bearings, cometic head gasket can be seen and all new belts etc etc.

The guy who has the engine has never started it himself either so he is not sure of the condition either.... but things do looks good so far.

My question is what could be stuffed and how could I go about making a good decision on this purchase in terms of further checks? Or do I need to roll the dice buy it stick it in and pray?
