Educated Guess At The Final Tune Results

Recommended Posts

Lol. I don't even want to know how much all of this has and will cost down the line.

The $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$s, gone, haha

You are dead a long time, do what you want now :)

You see blokes spending $50k+ to get a second off there already fast car. Cars that have had $200k spent on them over the years, then sell them for $85k

There are blokes on this forum that have spent a shitload more than mine will ever cost and then start all over again, all good.

Some blokes just piss it up against a wall or toss it at the TAB, whatever makes you happy :)

Not having a go man. All I mean is, because of my middle class Pay check I would not be able to justify spending that much money in one hit.

Sure if was rich I would splurge. But yet again I would be spending my money wisely.

I know what you are saying, no probs mate :)

But thats why I can do this, I spent my money wisely and worked my butt off , I do not owe anybody a penny and just want to do something a little silly, but something I get pleasure out of.

When I have my car I drive it just about every day, I get a shit load of fun out of it, money well spent, love it

It is even going to be better fun soon

LOL @ this guy! Are you serious mate? I don't know what Petes bill was BUT it'd have to be starting at $30K+ im pretty sure thats enough to be classed as a high end customer!

Sure there is blokes/GTRKAT that throw bucket loads more money at those blokes than Pete did does that mean he deserved a car that wasn't setup right from the beginning does it?

Don't get butt hurt over it.

No one said he deserved the issues he has encountered.

More money than most, probably. high end build? not really in the scheme of builds.

I'm not taking anything away from the quality and quantity of parts that he has either.

You're the one who that categorized it

It is just a car, a bit of fun that sometimes can give you the shits. Just like marriage, but still less expensive,LOL

'Gtr and marriage' somehow they don't go well together

I can believe that, but thats OK I am divorced, LOL

That was before I started playing with GTRs

Don't listen to the haters!

LOL, no haters mate, all good :)

Everyone expected more than what the dyno showed, drives better than it looked, well up to 6000rpm, lol but it is still being tweaked.

I am not going for massive HP. It should be all done in a couple of months and I will post the results, well modifying months = ??

I have not driven a car that holds the road like this does after the driveline work I had done and I want to try some hill climb events. I believe there is one close at Wootton Way Bulahdelah, they had one in March but not sure if they do it often ??

Hill climbs are awesome....I'm up giving Neil a hand at the state champs at Grafton this weekend...Mick is meant to be heading up here too.

There is one at Buladelah and it is f**king awesome....imagine closing a 3 lane road and letting people drive up it at full speed. A few others around like Bathurst, Huntley in Wollongong etc

Should be a blast, Have you done some of these events ?

Been having a look at some of the events, Wootton Way looks like a great road and to be able to use 3 lanes, DREAM RUN :)

They get a good mixture of cars in these events and if I ever get to do them, someone will be happy when I grab the wooden spoon off him, lol

I had it in my mind that Wootton Way was a little country road, more like the Lakesway going into Forster from Bulahdelah, now that would be an interesting Hill Climb doing a couple of the Hills on the Lakesway. Much tighter corners I think, it is a fun road and puts a smile on your face, but one lane for normal driving, still fun :)

When I pick my car up I am going to have a look at the Wootton Way road to see what it is like first hand. I know there has been a bit of drifting done there.

Any news Pete?

It was put on the Dyno yesterday after the Dump was installed, so should have a result later today, not sure if I will get a dyno graph , I would like one ?

Still no news on the water leak but they will be doing a pressure search when the tune is done, THEY ARE LOOKING INTO THE LEAK AS I WRITE THIS :)

But getting close and I am looking forward to see if the bigger dump and Cat make a difference to the tune and if it spools a little earlier. There seems to different opinions regarding this but most say for a turbo, the bigger the better and none is even better :)

Cool!

You aren't really going to be able to say if the dump and cat or retune made the difference to performance as the last tune didn't seem 'all in'

    • I am impressed with all this level of adjustment. I didn't expect all this possibility
    • Correct.  In the case of the 500kw dyno plot I showed you the car actually runs two boost control solenoids for boost control and a 5psi wastegate spring.  It allows me to control how much boost pressure is applied to both sides of the wastegate valve at any point and fairly accurately control boost target as a result. I've tuned it so that it's able to target anywhere from 5psi to 25psi depending on what's needed.  The target tables I've set up in that car are Gear vs RPM, so every gear has potential for a different boost (and torque) curve.   First and second gear have quite low boost targets, third gear actually has different target boost all the way through the rpm range as it's a stock RB25 gearbox - the boost targets have been chosen to maintain a peak of 600nm (what the owner has set as the maximum torque he's happy with putting through the stock 3rd gear) but it carries that to the rev limiter.   The boost curve to achieve that is something of a ramp up, then hold, then ramp up again and the power curve looks more like a flat line haha.
    • so you can decrease or increase the boost depending on the diet as you wish?     by acting on the wastegate?
    • That's torque and power, it's all from a single run.  The boost curve is "held back" from it's peak target in the 3500rpm to 5000rpm range from memory, so it ramps hard to something like 18psi then climbs more progressively to 23psi nearer 5000rpm.   It makes the torque (and power) ramp more "natural" and less hard on parts and traction, it doesn't feel artificially held back.
    • Here's the torque curves from the car I ramped boost up later in the rpm to allow a slightly wider useful power curve - the power curve is a bit weird shaped also thanks to the TVIS (or whatever they call it with the 4EFTE in this Starlet) which changes the volume of the intake manifold throughout the rpm range, but you can see that the green power curve actually holds later on with the extra boost... but looks almost more like the kind of thing you'd expect from a cam or exhaust change
