Stock Air Intake Modifcation

I realise that there are very minor if any gains are to be made from installing a cold air or short ram intake but the most noticeable effect would be the induction sound and roar from the engine, which at the moment I do kind of crave.

Looking around on the G37 forums etc, I've seen several people doing something called a Ghetto Air Box Mod (GAB), basically cutting a hole in the stock airbox and with that, much greater induction noise.

Since I might actually purchase an intake (R2C most likely), I will probably try this out and install some K&N Panel Filters along the way, maybe put some mesh over the hole to reduce any solids that may fly through into my air filters. But before I try, has anyone done this modification here?

Plumb the intake into the cabin, and shove the pod under the seat? Even under the dash would probably do...

It was recommended to me to avoid K&N filters, something to do with the oil in them? I use a HKS panel filter which cost about the same anyway, and gives it a nice growl.

The best dyno proven intake is Stillen Gen3 Longtube intake, requires some modification but 15whp gain proven with a tune. Dont bother cutting holes on your stock, might as well sell it as it is to fund your new ones

Lol, proven 15whp upgrade from an intake on a natro.

Straighter pipe with less in the way will get you the noise. Pay for a brand name kit with massive gains or stick on a peice of ally with couplers on either end and a pod. Performance wise, z-tube and panel filter are the way to go.

Tomei also demonstrated a whopping 80whp increase with a tune using their turbos on a SR20. Small print mentioned that it was a stroked motor with other bits and peices.

I can prove that my stock V35 produces 260rwkw. A mates stock Rodeo produced 365rwkw on the dyno. So many factors go into a tune and to say that an intake on a natro boosts power by 15rwhp or ~10% is not only misleading, it's absurd. Any of the guys who've built/worked on/ played with these motors would be able to tell you that. Guys like Scotty in Vic, Matt up in QLD etc.
