So, bit of an update;

My compression test is being done this Saturday as well as my drive belts as they need replacing too

Wish me luck on the compression test!

Will then move onto the Diff Gasket + Diff Oil Change!

Will also need to speak to a painter as I have just found about 2 small (Tiny) rust spots on my bonnet, would like to get that done asap as rust spreads like cancer!

If all goes will with compression I will be buying a Pulsar as a daily

If not, will use my money to help get the car fixed! :P

So bit of an update.. sorta :P

It's only Tuesday and I'm super nervous about the compression test, I really do hope all goes well!

Anyways, just thought I'd share with you guys my goal - Look's wise for the car

Only thing am adding is a roof spoiler & possibly wider rear guards :w00t:

Otherwise this is exactly how I want her! and I didn't realize it but I'm almost there :)

Oh, and I'll keep my spoiler!

No GTR spoiler for this GTST :nyaanyaa:

Plugs were already changed the week it started having this issue, so they should be all sweet!

gtr rear spoiler. not bad looks nice.

youll be right mate :D you getting new plugs put in whilst there doing it anyways? ahha

Thanks JH32!

Glad to see people are reading it, enjoying it and giving feedback! :D

Yeah, it just looks weird haha and not aggressive enough for me!

Cheers mate, hoping for good results :)

Nice build mate, good to see you having a good crack with the gtst. I much prefer the series 2 rear spoiler over the series 1 :)

Good luck with the compression test!

So on Saturday as well as doing the compression test I got my drive belts changed

Good thing too as they looked pretty worn!

Lucky my best friend is a mechanic and he came prepared with a shit-load of tools haha!

Drive belts were all done pretty easy

Oh, here is an engine bay shot too :D

So now came the nerve racking part, the compression test!

All looked ok up until Cylinder 6 came up, it came up with a reading of 90 :/

This was the one I was most nervous about as I had been reading that is usually the cylinder that plays up as it doesn't get as much airflow going to it and gets the hottest

So we did a wet test and dropped a little bit of oil into number 6 and the number still stayed, which means it could be the Valve Stems or a Head Gasket

So that was some good news at least!

So I ended up buying a new head that day from one of my good friends

Visually it looks ok and no cracks etc can be seen but I am taking it into HeadTorque on Saturday to get it checked over, serviced and re-machined

Will be buying the new Gasket's from Nissan hopefully this week or next and then will get the head done

I will then be swapping my heads over! Good news is I get to put a better Head Gasket on and some nice ARP Head Studs :D

Will also hopefully be buying a Pulsar this week too so I don't have to drive the Skyline as much

I will update this on Saturday

Although I am upset, I am looking forward to this as it will be a good learning experience taking the engine apart etc and it's good to have a qualified mechanic there to help me learn things along the way! :)

Bit of an update.. sorta :P

Yesterday I bought a 2000 N15 Nissan Pulsar Sedan! I couldn't resist another Nissan and I only paid $1,400 for it and it was in pretty good condition :w00t:

This trusty steed will be taking my 25 Head to HeadTorque tomorrow, so will update then

Edited by MC-WOSHY

So update time for those of you listening it at home!

I took my Head to HeadTorque (Would highly recommend them for anyone in WA!) on Saturday

They took the Head out and measured it all up.... and..... It's all good! yaaay :D

The head is perfectly straight and not warped in any way.

All the Head needs is to be taken apart, serviced, cleaned up and the installation of fresh bolts, so I thought I was all sweet

Key word there being "thought" but as with anything, something had to go wrong

The Head I had originally bought, turned out to be a NEO which meant it would have too high compression to be attached to my block

So I am in the process at the moment of finding a S1 RB25DET Head, which I should be picking up this week

The guy who is selling it was nice enough to allow me to get his Head checked out before I purchase it, so that's awesome news as I'll know exactly what I'm dealing with :)

In other news, I have half of my Gaskets. So now I just need The Intake Manifold Gasket & Exhaust Manifold Gasket which I'll be getting this week and then soon I'll be getting some ARP Head Studs and a Head Gasket (Thickness depending on how much HeadTorque takes off the Head).

Here are the Gaskets - Cam Cover Gasket, Cam Shaft Seal & Half Moon Seals (Not pictured, but you know what they look like!)

What would the comp ratio be with the NEO head? If you're not running a heap of boost and the comp ratio was under 10:1 then I wouldn't think it would cause too many dramas.

Maybe someone with more NEO knowledge can chime in and be a little more specific.

In all honesty I don't know too much either man

Hopefully someone with knowledge sees this and chimes in!

I just heard it wouldn't be too good from a number of sources so I thought better to be safe than sorry

Ok guys, update time!

This week I managed to get the last bits needed for the head. I bought the Intake Manifold Gasket and the Exhaust Manifold Gasket :D

Now all I need is the Head Gasket, just need to wait to see how much HeadTorque takes off the Head so I can buy the appropriate thickness Head Gasket

Oh, and some ARP Head Stud goodness!

In other news, I also bought the correct Head this week! I managed to chase down an RB25 S1 Head and I've dropped it off to HeadTorque just now for a check-over

post-104024-0-05846700-1430537001_thumb.jpg

More updates will come then

I am seriously contemplating buying Tomei Poncams with my Tax-Return in 1 month though :glare:

Thanks for reading this far guys! Hope it's been good so far

Looking great mate, good job :)

I am thinking of doing something with the inside as soon as I sort my motor out, if ever :/

should of bought my head, already had cams in it  ,

If I were you id slap the neo head on and add some water meth, would be very ballsy motor plus the cam has 8.5ish lift and zero hydraulic lifters to make noise later.. ;)

Cheers mate! I'm glad you enjoyed the read

It's good to see people reading and actually like this thread, in all honesty I didn't think it would be that great to others! :teehee:

    • Also, the cause of fuel spills and smells from the top of the tank is almost always the rubber hoses that are up there, not the tank seal.
    • 1. No, as you say you can remove the connectors and fuel lines. Before you do make sure you remove fuel pump fuse and crank the starter a few times to release pressure, and also loosen the fuel cap (just in case the tank is slightly pressurised) as it will pump out the lines otherwise 2. Not necessary but you are right, if it is the factory pump it is at risk of failing after 25 years....Changing it is not hard but potentially not trivial as you have to make sure you have the right pickup/sock for the pump to suit the tank, need to make wiring connections (crimped butt connectors would be fine) and have to mount/adapt the new pump in the right place in the cradle. Not impossible but don't start the job if you aren't confident. Also, the plastic nut that holds that seal in place can be really hard to remove. If you don't have a fuel nut removal tool it generally requires a big screwdriver or similar to bash the ring around a few times before you can get it by hand. Also the fuel lines can be very sticky on the tank lid fittings, hose removal pliers can help or if not twist the hose on the fitting (eg with linesperson's pliers) to break the seal before you try and remove it. Finally, mark the feed and return hoses so you don't put them on backwards and seal them with an m8 bolt to stop crap getting into the lines while working. Add a little grease in the threads of the plastic lid when you go to do it back up as a gift to your future self, and make sure you put it on evenly/not cross threaded.  Having said all that, most likely the lid just needs to be either tightened or removed and put back on without being cross threaded...the seal itself is usually pretty good.
    • Another weekend and another project I have questions about.... I bought a fuel tank sender O ring to install on the car because I'm quite sus on what I've got now.  1. No "whooosh" sound when opening fuel cap 2. If I fill up full tank, there will be a small leak under the car and it comes from the top of the fuel tank, dripping along the side. Stops after a short while 3. Hot days = 50/50 chance to get high as a kite inside the cabin if the car was in the sun for too long This is what I bought: https://www.amayama.com/en/part/nissan/1734279900 My plan was to just replace the O ring but I've got some questions: 1. Does the whole fuel pump assembly need to come out for me to replace the O ring?         Or, could I unplug all the connectors and fuel lines at the top, take off the twisty part (17343) and put in the O ring from the top?  2. Is it a very common thing for everyone to just change the pump whenever doing this?        I see the Walbro 255 gets thrown in a lot but I've got no issues with my pump so far. When I did the tune, I asked the guy to check my fuel pressure and he said there were no issues too. But is it just a good idea to change to the 255 anyway as the old unit may have been in there for so long? The 255 seems to be a direct fit for GTT (I got no soldering iron)
    • Normal speedtek issues, bin it and go cdoo# or 8hp. So many issues with these gearsets, a mate went through 3 rebuilds and multiple parts with heat, bearing and vibration issues.
    • I wouldn't go near them, they are rubber seals for a reason. Just chuck new cam cover seals, half moons and the spacers for the screws every decade or two. I add a really thin layer of silicone too and it seems to hold together OK
