Airzone
Hi all, I got myself some new brake pads for the rear and went doen to change them today. Got the wheels off, old pads out, and couldn't work out how to get the new ones in... I took the brake fluid cap off and got my mate there to catch any fluid and tried to push in the pistons in with my fingers. No joy. I tried with the old pad (gently) and no joy. Are there any tricks to doing this? P.S. I couldn't find any tricks or directions other than "push it in" with the search... krzysiu
pushing the pistons with your fingers, good luck. Go down to Autobahn and they have these plates that pushses the pistons back that allow you to put in the new pad. Once you change them with that flush out the brakes because you will have air in them. Thats it. Craved
or just use a spanner or screwdriver, push one side in all the way, then install that sides pad, then push the other side in.. no need to bleed the brakes to change these over! you might need to bleed them if you didn't close the bleed plug while still pushing on the piston! rb25
try to push the pistons back applying even pressure all the way around it. don't want to score the piston bore. i use a metal plate on the piston, a block of wood on the caliper and a small g-clamp to do the job. just watch the brake fluid resivoir doesnt overflow, but its usually only a problem when changing all 4. -rb25 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/45597-changing-rear-brake-pads-r33-gts25t/#findComment-928751 Share on other sites
Airzone
Do you have to open the bleeder before you start? Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/45597-changing-rear-brake-pads-r33-gts25t/#findComment-929381 Share on other sites
Craved
i havent needed to bleed my brakes at all since i've had the car.. well only when the fluid got flushed!! but no you shouldn't need to touch the bleeder valve, just need to use a bit of muscle!!
