Hey people,

Today I had a pretty sh*tty day of driving. First thing, parking my car outside the RTA (in order to submit my transfer of registration form) I decide to reverse park to show off my elite parking skills to the passenger. Unbenownst to me, I'm not fully straight so I slowly scratch my back left rim (although it's a relatively small scratch it's still my first blemish on the car :D).

Then tonight, whilst driving into a car park and as I'm telling my girlfriend how I scratched my rim, suddenly SCRRRRRRRR.... I scratch the bloody right back rim on a really sharp cornered and narrow curve in the car park (badly planned carpark - never parking there again). This scratch is alot worse and spans about 20 cms.. I won't bother fixing either for a while (out of fear I'll do it again as I am still new to the car). Also I'm getting new rims eventually (they are stock atm) so it's not the worst thing ever...

Anyway, just as I think things can't get worse, I pull out of my mate's street into a road I know has a speed camera (I've driven there many times). This time my mind is slightly off the task, and I give it a bit of gas (not much) pulling out into the street with the camera, in order to get in before traffic comes. Next thing 2 flashes. Now I think I may have been going about 57 - 58 km/h in a 50 zone. But I was heading towards the camera, and at the same time 2 cars passed the camera going in the opposite direction (I had basically passed out of view of the camera when it would have flashed). The other cars also seemed to be driving pretty fast. I'm just wondering if you think I'll get a speeding ticket? I've always thought the cameras could only get you if you are heading in the direction the camera faces (not towards it).

It really pisses me off since I know there's a camera there, and I've been driving everywhere really cautiously in the wet (learning the limits of corners in my new car). Also I wouldn't even consider speeding since less than 2 weeks ago girls I know were in a horrific accident in which one was killed due to speeding.

Anyway, cheers for listening to my whinge. I know that I probably wouldn't even lose points if I did get photographed, but I'm just interested in whether speed cameras can catch you from the front or not.

Hi. I would cautiously say that you would be alright.

I have heard they are not supposed to flash you from in front, mainly due to the flash blinding the driver.

Congrats on your ride dude. R34 GTT's are so nice in white. Just take your car out to somewhere there is no traffic, and test the limits of the car. That way, there less chance of causing damage to your pride and joy.

Hopefully, I will be getting a R34 GTT or S15 soon. :D

Damn, scratches suck especially when your car is pretty new, but at least its not on the body work. Which car park did you park in? My 33 seems to go alright in most car parks without scraping and it sits pretty damn low! However its only a week old with me, and managed to get a scrape on the front bar on some unkown driveway, hehe.. Its the price you pay for the height!

Ah k, never been to that car park. There is one in China town somewhere, GAURANTEE this car park will make u FREAK! You literally drive 1km/h in there as its pretty tight on the corners!!! Took me approx 3-4mins to drive down 4 levels which you can notice huge scuff marks from front bars on the walls of the downramp. But the maddest thing is that a tilt tray cant get in :D

Viscount - they only take the same way unless they've invented a new camera. You can take my word on that (then multiply it every time I drive past one). I wouldn't worry about it at all.

As for the wheels look on the bright side you have some for backup pair for drifting :D

The girls - was that the one in the manly daily? It's always a pity to hear things like that. If you're around mosman that's where they were from no? A friend of mine knew them i believe :

City carparks suck - especially when they make you leave your car I always think to myself these minimum wage mofos don't have a clue about the clutch or something bad. When I had my XW they told me they wouldnt park it. I said damn straight not with teh shift kit :D

Depends what car van it was, Some sedans will have it in the front, and all the vans have it in the back, and the 4x4's have it in the back as well.

Here in QLD they can take a pic at any angle that allows for a good view of the lic plate.

Wouldn't be bad if it was the same as the UK as they have to take it from the back orfront only and mustn't be any less than 45deg angle, and must inclue the lic plate and the driver in the pic, other wise it's invaild.

Sorry to hear that Vis.

Zagan - I think he was referring to a fixed installation. Those particular ones only get set off by three pressure/electromagnetic (I dono which) strips in the road.

I think the gov has too much of a cash cow to do the whole UK thing. In the U.S. I've seen just SUV/vans with a whole setup in them they just park anywhere and leave unattended. I swear you couldn't do that in Sydney some places it'd just get broken into and destroyed hehe

"I WILL DESTROY YOU!" - Morbo.

  • 3 weeks later...

yes having a whinge as well as about a city carpark as well when i went empire hotel a while ago. anyway the way out was a joke as the street u turn ont was tiny and somehow they allow cars to park on it as well so in order to get out without going over the gutter and scrapping the shit out of your car u have to go forward reverse forward reverse quite a few times so u dont hit the parked cars. oh boy it was horrible and to top things off the garage door closes after a while for security reasons and as i was in the process of gettin out the door closed and just missed and i mean just missed landing on the boot.

anyway viscount if ur getting new rims it shouldnt be too bad as the ones on now are your back ups. and i suppose thats ur car in the pic, it looks great.

Ive been caught doing 67 in a 60 zone by a camerra on ther other side of the road facing me.  Maybe they only got them in Vic or something but they can definately get you no matter what direction your heading.

heh, I got done at that speed too, best photo I ever got of my ol' VS commodore was a head-on from a stationary speed camera of me powering up a hill in brisbane, with a cheesy grin on my face...

    • GTSBoy on your suggestion on another thread I had a look at those injectors and ended up getting them because of the quality.  Got the expensive ones.
    • Hey guys been looking everywhere to try and find the correct gtr hood latch support part number but only found the first half and when I search with that number it sends me to an r34. The first part I found was 62515. If anyone could help me with the rest then I’d really appreciate it. Or if there’s some alternative hood latch support that would work even better cause I can’t find any for sale. (Searched on upgarage, partsouq, buyee, rhdjapan)
    • If you've only done the upper control arms on the rear, AND you have changed their length (by more than about 1mm) to set the camber you want, then you will definitely need/want to install traction arms also. Adjusting the camber arms on their own WILL introduce bump steer and make the car unpleasant to drive. Most owners have no idea that their car could behave infinitely better than what they put up with. I'm not entirely sure what the Stageas need, but I am thinking that unless you have massive front spring rates and pretty soft rear springs, you have waaaay too much rear bar. Oversteer city, in my estimation. Combined with possible excessive bump steer from maladjusted arms, that could be a recipe for nastiness. ATR43SS2 is not a highflow. It is an outright replacement turbo. It's a little bit bigger than the largest highflow profile that Tao does. Probably a solid 300rwkW turbo where the bigger highflows will be about 30-40rwkW less. Nevertheless, we're only talking about ~300 rwkW, which is well within the abilities of the stock ECu to run with a Nistune on board. I would do so without hesitation - and I will be doing so when I get my finger out and actually get the injectors and AFM installed. But, if you would prefer to drop a whole lot more money on the ECU side, then I suspect you're looking at Haltech. The Haltech fanbois here will all spout on about all the available engine protection you can have, that you can't have with the Nistune option. And they're right. But it doesn't really come for free either. You will spend more money on extra sensors and the like, plus the work to install them. If the engine was built and therefore represented a big investment to protect, then I'd say definitely do it. If you view the current (and forever into the future) shortage of replacement engines as something to prompt similar protection, then also, do it. If you see a destroyed RB25 as an opportunity to put in a Mercedes or other V12 (like I kinda do)... then your perception of the risk/reward might differ. These are good injectors. You can also get a "better" set of the same with more flow matching, for more $$. 1000cc is where you will want to be. You will need an R35 AFM and adapter tube if you want to stay with Nistuned stock ECU. Otherwise, if going Haltech, you can ignore. As for intercooler. Just about anything will do. You're only talking about ~300rwkW. Just put a big core in there. Be aware that return flows do add significant pressure drop and will cost power and will make the turbo work harder to achieve the same goals. If you can manage a proper crossflow, do it. I'm keeping my very good return flow because I'm only expecting to be in the ~250rwkW range, and will live with whatever outcome I get.
