I reckon, in NSW at least, you'd have to be seriously unlucky to get picked up on that.

This forum says a few points and a fine.

I couldnt find anything official.

Its like a $70 fine, i been caught when i was a teen.
Just be careful it voids your insurance =\
You'll get away with it 99% of the time.
Just say its your mates car and yours is in an accident OR
They made a mistake in putting automatic on your license and you need to go back and adjust it

Unless rules have changed past few months.

Red P's have it written at the back.

Green P's are unrestricted. Can drive either regardless of transmission of test car.

this is my understanding of how it works currently as well, they didn't have green Ps when I got my licence and were only restricted to auto for your Ps (if you got your licence in an auto)
