garthR33
Hi everyone, I'm a new owner of a Skyline R33 GTST and was hoping someone could please help. I bought the car only three weeks ago knowing it was due for a new timing belt. We booked it in for the service yesterday with no problems and now it is buggered! It's totally fine on idle and no load but when I get under it or coming up a hill it splutters like crazy, almost sound like on the rev limiter. Can someone tell me if this mechanic has totally ruined my car or is it a new problem unrelated to the work done? Cheers, Garth (excited but now sad Skyline owner) Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/456470-issue-under-load-after-new-timing-belt/ Share on other sites
jiffo
So it's breaking down under load? Why not take it back if it was fine previously. This could be as simple as excess coolant splashed over coil packs when bleeding out the air. Or it might be timed woefully, best to take it back. Ben C34
Well of course, if it went bad straight after the work something he did likely caused it. Timing could be wrong either cam or ignition. Sensors not plugged in correctly, coil loom as mentioned. What's your plan? Fix it yourself via an internet diagnosis or be normal and go back and get him to fix it? garthR33
Thanks guys, I will be taking it back Monday of course but I am hoping I can fix it for the weekend. I played with the coil pack plug and that seemed to fix it for a bit but now its playing up again. I am going to have a look at the hot and cold side of the intake and hope that it could just be an air leak considering it only happens on boost. 75coupe
Maybe they were a bit rough with 20yr old coil loom Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/456470-issue-under-load-after-new-timing-belt/#findComment-7530882 Share on other sites
macautomotive
If its breaking down under load most likely it will be an ig fault. But have them double check cam timing and cas timing, If the locating key on the intake camshaft has broken without them noticing they may have installed the cas one spline out. If timing is all correct with everything sounds like you've got a def ig fault if its under load. Kinks
Maybe they were a bit rough with 20yr old coil loom this is quite possible.. or the CAS has dirty contacts (although this should cause poor running always I would think). original mechanic needs to fix it. or if you have lost faith, find a better workshop. one that specialises in skylines. if you take a skyline to someone who is used to working on carby motors you are in for a bad time. they have to be familiar with the type of car (turbo injected) and ideally the brand (nissan) too.
