I believe FWD in this case provides a number of benefits within the mechanical rules and regulations (stuff like regen braking, aerodynamics, etc) which apply to each vehicle. Its not a pursuit of some ultimate driving machine

Marty are you looking for Doc? This is some seriously old news. Its continuously powered by gas to fwd. Electric to the rear. This allows the car layout to be better designed aerodynamically. Last I heard, they were having some serious issues with the electric side of things. So it could stay FWD if they don't figure it out. Which would kind of suck. Would like to see it perform as it was intended, not some half finished product. But maybe they figured it out now, I don't keep up with it to much.

I think it allows for better weight distribution and some other benefits (high speed stability? Can't remember).

Either way, it's innovation (which is what LMP should be about) like the Deltawing.
