Hi guys, rumour mill is spinning up, EA have an announcement for a new Need For Speed game tomorrow May 21 and there have been some strong indicators that it will be another Underground title!

I wonder if the scene will see a resurgence?

Online only would completely deter me

I can deal with in-game purchases (sigh)

Physics will be similar i imagine to recent releases, id rather they stick to arcade rather than simulation games (i.e. I don't want to worry about cold tyres)

I like open world

Storyline needs to be subtle, can be cliche', but EA should understand that it's all about:

MODS! Especially visual/exterior... don't tell me that's so 2001, because shut up i want mods. Wide body, big wangs, custom trunk, all that.

Super important: car list. This needs to include cars like INTEGRA, CIVIC, CELICA, Skyline WRX Evo Supra, cars that you actually see on the roads! Aspirational vehicles that can be owned, not the type of aspirational like Bugatti and P1. The novelty of driving around in an only-3-ever-made Koeninnsegg or a sparkly looking 1943 Cobra runs off very quickly. Also;

Needs to be street racing - no tracks. Im a filthy casual, i dont want to practice lap times and braking markers, i want to rip the handbrake on my R34 GTR in two tone Pearl with a decal of a hot Asian chick mid corner and drift that shit. Anyone that is into practicing racing lines and braking zones on real-world simulated tracks already has Gran Turismo, Forza and a wheel and cockpit set-up. EA can't compete with this (there are already other competitors popping up, like project cars)

But seriously, if i can get an arcade customisable street racing game, I would instantly drop $90 on that - I'm sure enough people would too (the old nostalgics and the current young uns too).

That said, has anyone got an opinion on street racing: evolution? It seems to be similar to a mechanic simulator, but with driving?

its EA. so will probably try and make it MMO-ish. online-only. cruise with friends. wanted levels. pimp yo ride. drags and drift comps. mmmmmmm i can smell the grinding already.

News Flash: EA apparently owns and operates Speedhunters. explains a lot. also means that this will be the closest thing to "Hardparking: The Game" to ever be released.

i can see it now... they'll be like a Race Wars equivalent. like in those DiRT games, with fireworks and music and babes. There will be Speedhunters banners and #IAMTHEWANKER tags everywhere. Everyones tyres will have white Speedhunters tags on them. All the seat options will be from Bride, all hardnesses from Tanaka. All suspension from KW. All the wheels will be Rays. and you'll be scored on how your cars looks (like in Underground 2) and be invited to iconic photoshoots with Speedhunters and you must have a certain cred-level to be eligible.

oh man, this is getting worse the more i think about it.

Guys! Check out Justin Fox's facebook page, this might actually exceed our expectations!!

Justin (from Zen Garage) plus a few other prominent figures in the global mod culture (Speedhunters too, plus a few Jap guys - can't remember by heart and can't access FB at work) have all been brought to Sweden to consult for EA/GHOST.

There are photos of hyper-realistic Rocket Bunnu 180sx, Liberty Walk 86, Hako Skyline, GFB(?) Porsche and a Mustang with neons haha.

Also, it won't have the moniker "Underground 3" but will simply be called "Need For Speed".

Release date Fall 2015 (American fall i guess) on PC, PS4 and Xbone. Check out Justin's page!

Haha yeah in game purchases are scary...

I believe that the Skyline I had and Evo I currently own are clean and tastefully, lightly modified... but watch me go crazy speed hunter/stancefag style in the game. Should see the Evo i have in Need for Speed underground 2... I even have 'sponsor' stickers all over it to hit 10 stars. Anyone that plays the game and doesn't get into this sort of thing is just in denial ;)

lets be honest, its gonna be just like the old NFS underground games.
and we will all play it.
stancing and blingin around with noisy blowoff valves in dumped 90s cars to the tune of snoopdog.
and we will all secretly love it.
then we shal all bag it :P

  • 3 weeks later...

"gameplay" trailer from E3.

doesnt look as bad as I thought it would be. but that camera angle when sliding almost made me motion sick. wtf is up with it.

graphics are impressive and so are the level of mods, but EA just cant help themselves when it comes to "how people talk on the streets" and eye-watering amounts of motion blur.

I'm not gonna lie how excited I am for this, it will probably be the reason i buy a next-gen console

I'm just hoping that the camera angle in the trailer is just to show off the graphics and they sort that out in the final release

Feel like a kid again getting excited for Underground 2 to come out!

    • People still have Skylines? I thought they're non-existent now.
    • Harness update time have had great fun and learnt so much already so far with this project. I started off making both the ignition and injector sub harnesses in the hope any mistakes i made here aren't as hard to undo and learn from as the main harness.  A cool comparison of the old harness using presumably TXL wire and the new which is using Tezel. Also opted to use DTM plugs to keep the whole setup as neat and tidy as possible and tucked the wiring under the coil bracket to try and keep it all from sticking out too much. Although the injector harness, I'm not overly happy with as I'm still using the rubber boots that are supplied with the type of plugs it just looks ugly and sticks out like a sore thumb with the white identifiers so a slight redesign may be done.   Then it was main harness time and most importantly trying to route it nice and away from the heat it will use the OEM heater hose routing which is no longer present to keep the harness up high and secure. it's amazing how much smaller this harness is able to be compared to the old one. plugged everything into the emtron and with the help of the tuner again attempted to start it up and instantly fired up and running smoothly on all 6 which was a big shock to myself. So still some routing and adjusting to be done for the final fit up and installing a knock sensor harness plug which is in the post all has gone surprisingly well.     The old harness for shits and giggles.
    • They do that at random every now and then, with almost no detectable cause. Mine has done it a couple of times (over 25 years!!). Never worked out why.
    • I don't post on here and have been lurking for some time now. Many of the topics have helped me out more times than i can count. I was racing yesterday (11/9) and blew a front right CV shaft. I have spares so I popped a new one in. A thread i read previously said to check the engine mounts if you blow a front CV. Upon inspection, the front right mount was completely separated from the upper plate. This discovery saved me time and money, because i would have blown another CV if i went back out. Just wanted to thank you guys and wish everyone luck with with their builds. (Now if we could only come up with a solution for my power steering belt flying off after hitting the rev limiter, lol)
    • Either way he still need those style of spacer to go into the manifold because the photo he currently has is not going to work
