I'm coming up for the 200,000km service on my R33 gtst and I've opted for the "gates racing" kit, which includes water pump, timing belt, bearings etc..

i thought id replace all the pulleys while I'm there and the question i have is.

Is it worth getting HKS or tomei timing gears ? and or has anyone had issues with these?

also has anyone had issues with these lightweight pulley sets on ebay for a/c idler pulleys? link below

cheers

Better to replace pulleys with new stock ones in my opinion if they are a problem. HKS/Tomei Cam Gears are fine and nice upgrade if you plan on actually using them by dialing in timing otherwise they serve no purpose except to look pretty and function the same as the stock ones.

I hate Ebay and like to buy from trusted sources which will ensure I receive quality products with no chance of replicas. If a pulley or cam gear fails because you bought from ebay you'll be in a bit of trouble.

The Gates Racing timing belt and pump kit is a good choice, just make sure it's genuine gates products. You might want to look at your Fan belts also while you are there.

And hopefully you still have vct so really you can only change one timing gear the other will need a special one for keeping vct, readup im sure there is something out there possibly but probably not worth the hassle...

How std is the car?

Ive been running alloy pulleys and had no probs...

Thanks guys I appriciate it.

Mods are exhaust / headers , front mount cooler & splitfire coilpacks with upgraded low mount turbo ,manifold & bigger injectors to come soon.

But I think I'll just replace the gears and pulleys with original parts for now.

Thanks for the advice
