Engineer Plate For Brake Upgrade

Hi all,

I have Z32 rotors and calipers on S13 coilovers mounted in my bluebird. What are the rules regarding this as far as legality goes? They are all bolt on mods for my car.

I want to upgrade to R33 GTR 324mm rotors with a caliper spacer so I thought I would ask the question before I went further..

I've been running the upgraded brakes and suspension nearly 10 years now.

well...firstly the rules change state to state, I guess you are asking about QLD.

In my experience almost every skyline has mods, and almost none have engineer's certs. And if something is clearly an upgrade, an engineer is just going to tick it off as OK. The only thing to make it more complex would be any front/rear bias changes or if you should run a larger master cylinder.

Specific example related to brakes. In SA, not QLD, but just to give you an idea of what different thoughts get thought by the authorities.

1) Want to put an RB25 into an R32? Must upgrade the brakes to R33/4 items to match.

2) Put in your application for the engine conversion approval. No engineering required. But application must also show request to upgrade the brakes. No engineering required here either, but they tell you on the one hand that you must have the brake upgrade, and on the other hand they make you apply to upgrade the brakes.

3) At inspection they tick the box (brakes upgraded).

My one big concern with the OP's proposal is the caliper adapters. If I were a rego approval authority, I would not allow them unless they were ADR approved or signed off by an engineer. It would be my expectation that regardless of how casual the rego people would be about a simple brake upgrade, that they would be decidedly un-casual about caliper adapters.

Hi Guys, thanks for the input. I agree that the caliper spacers will be the biggest issue in regard to legality.

My car is registered in QLD so I would of course be dealing with QLD engineer certs etc.

As is, with just brake bolt on upgrades, is their any needs for a mod plate? or is a mod plate required only when it's been adapted to suit?
