Hello Citizens of SAU,

After learning that my rear demister/defoggers and door triggered map lights weren't working, I have concluded that the BCM was damaged and required replacing. I initially thought the difficult bit was to source a brand new BCM from Nissan Japan (like-for-like, thanks to amayama.com @ $300 AUD) and that the easy bit was the programming by the bountifulness of Melbourne automotive locksmiths.

I was wrong.

Not many locksmiths knew what I was talking about, and mentioning 9 out of 10 times "CONSULTII/III protocol or tool" gave locksmiths an opportunity on the phone to say "sorry, no can do". Replacing BCM in the V35 is only held in by two top tabular clips and a screw bolt on the bottom - easy as pie. Despite this, Nissan Australia (Hoppers Crossing) did not want to have anything to do with this car. Even when I mentioned that I have a brand new BCM at hand.

I have a 5-digit PIN code (numeric) on a small metal bit that came with my keys when I bought the car. If it helps, my car is a 2003 Nissan Skyline V35 Sedan 250GT-"M"), complete with two factory key fobs. Also attached below is the old BCM currently in my car and the new BCM I have received this week (like-for-like).

Is there anyone in Melbourne competent enough to complete this task?

Cheers,

Michael

Hey iamhe77, I've taken it to a locksmith option after Nissan Hoppers Crossing said "no". According to this post (I understand it's American), locksmiths can apparently perform this: http://g35driver.com/forums/engine-drivetrain-forced-induction/431773-diy-body-control-module-replacment-bcm.html

Take it to Ferntree Gully Nissan.

They have no issues at all working on imports (or getting parts in if need be).

Just trying to save you a lot of stuffing around.

A big thanks to iamhe77! Ferntree Gully Nissan laughed at the Hoppers Crossing dealer for their incompetency. Any how, I managed to book it in for the follwing Thursday morning 2-Jul-15. Props again to iamhe77 and Sash from FTG Nissan!

Just an update: the BCM has been successfully been replaced and programmed within 30 minutes of waiting at FTG Nissan. $100.00 all up for the ordeal. A big thanks to Sash from FTG Nissan!

It's only a BCM reprogram, they didn't rebuild your engine in an afternoon. :P

So did the new BCM fix the map lights and demister? I have another theory which would be more likely if the fault comes back...

Hey Scott - Yeah the new BCM fixed everything that was wrong - fixed the map lights and rear window demister too :)

I purchased the car as-is, maybe the previous owner had no idea what was wrong.

I suspect the BCM was damaged due to low voltage, probably from the battery compartment filling with water. Good idea to drop the rubber bung that gets blocked under the battery, it's a very common problem and will cause many other issues when it rains.

    • They see me rollin' they hatin'....... Took me most of the day to make the necessary mods to the mounts to make them fit the car.  Fortunately I was able to just use the mounts that came with the rotisserie. The rear ones are really secure, the front I feel i might reinforce a bit more as it doesn't seem like enough attachment to the vehicle. I'm sure it's fine but better to be safe than (extremely...) sorry.  I drilled and tapped thread into additional M12 holes to each car mount where it attaches to the rotisserie as an extra fail-safe. Without them the side to side movement is just restricted by the allen head pinch bolts, nothing actually goes though the beam. Does now! I still need to adjust the rotisserie to get the car centred in terms of centre of gravity. If it's too high or too low relative to the rotational centre line of the car, it will be like a turtle and roll onto its back or as it currently sits, I dont think I'd be able to rotate it as it sits as it needs to lift the whole car up as it rotates. Ain't happening... I'm going to be nervous as hell the first time I go to spin it on its side...
    • Oh yes done this when the window started flopping around.  Turns out the guides that run along the rail chanel had crumbed way. Took off the door card and pulled out the window mech, then the window, which you have to pull out through the top. As said unbolt the guide rail and don't spend 30 minutes getting frustrated trying to find a way to slide it out upwards cause that don't frigging work. Drop it down and out through the door hole. All I did to repair it was slice some 10mm clear plastic tube, vertically, then screw it to the guide rail both sides. This tubing rolls inward on both sides and leaves a gap wide enough to hold the window. To finish all I did was lube the plastic tube with olive oil and Bob's your uncle . . . well if he has the operation he can be your Aunt ! !  10 bucks in plastic tube and another 5 minute job done again . . . . YEH BULLSH#T ! My love for Skylines knows no bounds !
    • So was there a solution to this problem? I’m having this issue now.
    • not expensive, just irreplaceable if you don't go sub 60 at wakie in that thing people will start talking
    • I haven't replaced that, but I have had the doors apart on the r32 a couple of times The door skin will be held on by a combination of clips and bolts, just take it slowly and make sure all the sneaky hidden bolts are out Once the skin is off you should be able to pop that piece off pretty easily, looks like there are only 2 bolts holding it on
