Themauler
Hi guys. I'm currently building an rb30/25det and was wondering if a stock rb20 turbo would be usable to start with? I will be getting a bigger turbo down the track but was just wondering if it would work. Thanks
Ben C34
Anything will work. Just depends how shit you want it to be.
Themauler
Well obviously I don't want it to be shit. I know it's only a small turbo. So short answer would be yes it will work but not very well?
Hunky
It will work, but will be way to restrictive and most likely choke the engine around 4k rpm so if you don't plan on reving it over 4k rpm then you will be okay providing you don't over boost a brake the ceramic wheel on the turbo. I suggest using something alittle bigger, no point building a 25/30 the putting a useless turbo on it. The xr6 ball bearing turbo gt3540 is good value for money can pick them up for around 500$ second hand and are a perfect size for rb30.
Themauler
Cheers Hunky. That's what I thought would happen. First time building an RB30/25 and I want to do it properly the first time

iruvyouskyrine
Are XR6T turbos T3? What car is it going in and what will you be using it for? Daily driver or circuit car. Daily I would get an R34 turbo and put it on rather than the 3540/3576 found on the XR6T.

Themauler
It's going to be a daily / race and it's going in my r31 Edited July 6, 2015 by Themauler
Blackkers
r34 hypergear highflow would be a good option
iruvyouskyrine
Yep I would jam a stocker R34 turbo on it at the moment and then send it to Hypergear to get highflowed when it inevitably dies. Saves a bit of coin now and you should get at least a few months out of it.
