Hi all,

Doing a turbo install which led to all my coolant in the engine being drained out. How would I go about refilling this? I can't start the car and run it waiting for the thermostat to open as there's no coolant to heat up.

Would my best option be to remove the thermostat and just have a bit of straight hose connecting my radiator to the car?

If so

How would I go abouts putting the thermostat back in without covering myself in coolant and loosing a majority of it?

Thanks

Actually does the thermostat need to be open to refill the engine with coolant or will it still flow in the engine 1 way with it being shut? I thought that it wouldn't matter but my coolant bottle is still showing Max when I've drained the block which has just confused me. Help would be greatly appreciated !

Just pour coolant in like normal, most thermostats have a small air bleed hole.

When your warming up the car, the thermo will open, water level will drop and you add coolant.

Then follow the standard bleed procedure, open the bleed nipple when hot to purge out any air pockets in the head.

Should all be in the workshop manual.....

Dude i know you're new but come on, there's like 20,000 threads on draining/flushing coolant. Download workshop manual as above, its pretty straightfwd and you don't need to remove thermostat.
