What a car history you've got! Love to see you back @ the 33's.

I'm liking the setup your running. Was wondering though, what's the complete spec list of the engine? And the specs of the T67? and at what RPM does it come online?

It was 2PM, Saturday the 7th of May. I felt spontaneous and really wanted to go drifting. Hi-Tec drifting were holding a South circuit practice night so with a few favors called in I got the R33 picked up and towed to Eastern Creek. It was so good being back there, prior to night I hadn’t been on South circuit in over 3 years!

With all the usual stuff done, scrutineering, drivers briefing and going over the car to make sure it’s ready for a beating, it was time to head out. As you’d expect the first few runs were a little how’s it going, I’ve never had a good slide in it since the new turbo and suspension setup, but I got used to it rather quickly.

On my fourth run though disaster struck! one clutch kick too many lead to blowing third gear. So I whiled back into the pits, thinking this is such a typical thing to happen. Some time went by and out I went again. I ended up bashing limiter off second gear for the rest of the night.

I got to a point where I was wondering why do I bother anymore, my money could be put elsewhere, and drifting just doesn’t give me the same buzz that it used to … I guess I’m more maturely minded now. But I had a few random people come up to me each time I headed back into the pits and asked if I would take them out for a spin. So out we went and after the first run out their smile was ear to ear, they were ecstatic! It was a good feeling to give someone the opportunity to experience drifting, and it reminded me of how fun it actually is.

As for the Skyline, big buzzkill on the blown gear, but the night didn’t end. There was no way I was going to throw in the towel after spending a premium to drift again (event fee, cams, membership etc). The cars setup is incredible now though, there is so much grip and stability thanks to less camber and the GKtech rear knuckles. There’s no more steering bind too which is oh so rad.

On the flipside, the RB25 was doing the ol’ pump the oil out of the head trick. So I need to do my baffle mod to the cam covers, like I did on the Stagea.

As for the gearbox, I’m thinking of going along the lines of a Z33 transmission. They cost the same as a RB25 box, closer gearing would be better matched for my big turbo and the internals are much stronger. Obviously there would be a lot of stuffing around with the tail shaft, and adaptor plates etc but it’s either that … another used 25 box that probably wont last long (they are getting old now), or a gear set which would be the most costly option.

I’ve got plenty of time to decide though, my wedding is coming up so there is no money to allocate to the R33 … it’ll just have to remain dormant in the garage for a while.

Hope that compressor nut doesn't affect the compressor wheel's balancing Adam :)

Is that power figure on 98RON or E85?

I got it checked, its all good :D

It's on E85. Shortly after writing that post I noticed my EBC was reading lower than my boost controller ... so it was tuned on only 18psi.

love the look.

Thanks!

I know right? Lots of money wasted away hahaha. All good fun though.

It's a unopened RB25, here's a copy/paste from my little speclist doc. I tend to do this with all my cars ... helps me keep track as I always forget lol.

I have the T67 with larger T04 Compressor wheel. 10cm rear T3 flange. Full boost comes on around 4400RPM, its a touch laggy but I can imagine the Z33 box fixing that issue quick smart. the Normal T67 comes on at around 4000RPM I believe.

such an awesome build thread! gives me so much motivation :) love the car, definitely one of the best r33's around. cant wait to see more updates!

car looks fantastic mate, the paint really transformed it!

Thanks for the kind words dudes!

    • What HVAC actuator is under the steering wheel? Do you mean on the RHS of the centre console, immediately to the left of your shin? If so, then yes, it is probably that one, because that is the mode door actuator, and from what I know, it's still a pain in the arse to replace. I don't know about whole dash out, but you certainly have to rip into the centre console section. I don't know if it's covered in the workshop manual, as I haven't spent much time looking at those parts of it. (and by "the workshop manual, I mean the R32 GTR one, which is the most comprehensive one we have, and it should be similar enough between that and later cars to serve as a guide).
    • ...oops. forgot the TCU end...
    • No I got mine from a friend that had fabricated one … but I had to fit it to my setup which was a hks turbo setup. His was a Garrett -7. So one of my turbos was not a flange for one side … then I had a leak in the welds I had to find a weld shut … in the end the setup was decent priced but I spent a lot to get it fitted. A couple companies I checked would make it but you’re talking 7-9k aud with titanium. No joke mine was 6-7k even second hand after I had to fit it in Hong Kong … labour is expensive here.
    • I'd just like to restate that I don't think anyone here is actually hating I recently sold a car part to a guy who was building a forged auto R34, with MV stall and aiming at ~450kw. I told him that I'm him, from the future and to stop after it explodes once. I told him I knew he won't listen the first time, and that's fine. But if my predictions do come true - Change direction faster than I did. I also said it's probably no coincidence that the dyno plot of a reliable turbo engine starts to look a lot like a N/A motor. :p
    • Got just the wing painted and fitted up to the existing boot. Big visual change and about time after having a GTR wing sitting in the shed since 2018 Headed up to Mallala with a quick obligatory stop in at Boliver OTR Oil control mods seems to have worked. I checked the catch can after session 1 and there was a dribble of water/e85 with barely any oil in it. After session 2 and 3 there was almost nothing and I stopped checking after that. so either great success or catastrophic failure/block of the external breather The GTR wing made a noticeable difference in the 160-185km/h sweepers. It was a very hot day for the cars at over 33C but the previously done cooling upgrade/ducting/water sprayers meant I never saw over 60C intake, 105C water and 100C oil and temps would drop back down very quickly once I shut it down. AD09's are a decent tyre but certainly and expectedly a step down when compared the the CR-S/AR-1 I have had on the car for years of track days. The handling characteristics of my car which I often describe using the Tony Hawks Pro Skater balance mechanic where either side of the center is understeer/oversteer was much more pronounced with no "green/safe" zone in the middle. However, imo it steers well/easily during oversteer largely thanks to the custom ACOSTAL front end. Enjoy a loose lap POV with my mate giggling away as a passenger.   Group photo for Peer Pressure Racing made it back home and gave it a wash Overall a great success compared to my previous two track days where i cooked the Starlets motor and blew up the new diff in the R32
