Looking into getting a kando turbo and recall int he past the internal gates where prone to spiking.

I have heard recently that the issue has been resolved. is this true?

or am i better off spending the extra on an external gate setup

Unless they enlarged the wastegate puck and opened up the hole I would stay well away, stick to the products you know won't boost spike, such as Hypergear or Garrett, or going external gate is the best option imo if you can keep it looking stockish. There are some great gains to be had if an external setup is done right.

yeah currently making just over 210kw but was looking at stepping up to a bigger turbo/more power but with similar response.

i had heard the hypergear high flows where laggier than the TD05 18g kandos?

Hypergear do a wide range of turbos with varying flow, some like the SS2 are very responsive for their power capabilities, and run a more modern CNC compressor, much more efficient than an old TD cast compressor. This will add to the cost of course, but I am sure he could make a cast version for similar pricing to the Kando with the same wheels.

Garrett do some nice GTX28 series turbos that would be perfect on an RB20, but you are looking at twice the cost of the kando.

I would contact Tao and speak to him regarding your goals, you have nothing to lose, and it's not something you want to jump into without researching all your options.

definitely worth finding all the options and pricing before i spent the money!

i am getting a leak down test done in the next week to check on the engine health before i even think about buying something

Good idea, if it's no good a stock RB25det Neo would get the power you are chasing with no lag at all. :P

yeah det neo would be the path id take if my RB20DE+T dies. but i love the 20's hahah

Another option is to run e85 on the turbo you have now, more power potential just by filling at a different pump, as long as you have the injector overhead. Obviously best if you have a servo nearby that sell it.

I have ported the shit out of my kinugawa td05-18g wastegate hole, it helps but still does creep up to 17+ psi around 5500rpm, on an unopened rb25 with usual basic mods. Although, it seems the turbo works best over 1 bar anyway. Electronic boost controller is used just to bring it on boost, and with the 8cm housing it is defintely not laggy. Have one of the new hypergear hiflows on the way just cos, am keen to see the comparison between the 2.

Currents mods not really ideal for E85. injectors not big enough for E85 and turbo is the bottle neck as it is.

RB20DE+T

RB25 turbo (0p6/neo)

R32 GTR injectors

Ebay plenum

etc

would be interesting see a comparison of the results of the two! be sure to let me know?

guessing you're not in Brisbane from your car pic there but if you are you're welcome to have a drive yourself to check it out before I swap 'em over.(td05 will be for sale cheap too :P, if you were considering one of them)

What turbine housing are you running? Any pics? There are a few different versions now...and the latest offering which is a Skyline specific T3 "looks" right compared to the avomination housings they use to offer as their internal gate, T3 offering.

If someone wants a new 18G cheap I have one laying around which is no good to me since my 20 overheated

Roy that 2nd one is the one i use, i have both the 10cm2 and 8cm housings. It is not a physically small turbo, turbine housing is much larger that stock, so i consider its response to be very good, it may not have any boost creep on a lower displacement rb20 with the wastegate ported out?

    • What can't be done with a little bit of decking board or similar timber bolted to a hub flange via 2 wheel nuts is not worth talking about.
    • I noticed something. On the tps sensor and the sensor behind the adjustment screw is adjusted towards the far left. Are these screws supposed to be centered? (this sensor was in the same position before the tune as well)  Also attached a photo of where my car usually idles at when warm (sometimes a tiny bit above that). I think I might have screwed up the calculation and it might have better than I thought lol at 750rpm still not 650rpm though.
    • So for both general interest of engine health, and to rule out any coolant/oil issues, I organised an oil analysis done on the 125,000klm oil Results below, all good, just a bit of fuel dilution which I'm not too worried about
    • This is actually a really good way of measuring what wheels fit. If only there was a similar measurement between hub face and suspension :p That said, it's probably pretty simple to actually measure it all with the wheel off the car for the rear. The front is a bit more complex but..
    • Being the top Google search result for R34 wheel-related inquiries, lemme throw down my experience. I calculated that 100mm from hub face to wheel face is about the perfect fitment for my ENR34 sedan.  I've been running 18x8.5s, ET35, with a 1" spacer. So, 8.5in to mm = 216mm. 216/2 = 108mm. 108-35 = 73mm. 73+ 25 (1" to mm) = 98mm.  If you wanna get close to this on dif widths, here are the offsets you'll want: 9" - ET around 15mm 9.5" - ET around 20mm 10" - you're crazy, but ET around 30mm All these should fit perfectly on a non-widebody, non-GTR Skyline. Note that it's probably the absolute max, and you're probably better off running a couple degrees of camber in this config, but it looks great, super flush.
