I recently purchased a Phase 1 172 with the intention of swapping over its goodies to this car. However, after cleaning it up I've realised it's a really good example of a somewhat rare and collectable car.

I'm now faced with the dilemma...
Do I keep this car and sell my ph1?
Do I sell this and keep my ph1?
Do i sell both and buy a newer Clio.... or something else?

For now I'm going to advertise both my Clio's, and just see what happens! I could potentially swap parts between cars for the buyer too. (see other ad here)

*Will be sold with all currently removed parts supplied... I could probably re-install for buyer.

I'd be interested in a trade/swap for a Clio 197/200, Integra Type R, R26, Megane 250, RX8, Silvia/200sx, Evo, STI, etc. I could possibly add a few grand towards the right trade.

Description
Up until recently, this was my girlfriends’ daily driver. It is in fairly good condition for a 13 year old car. The exterior comes up really well when clean, and whilst there are a few imperfections, it still turns heads. The interior is pretty clean too... both are probably around 7/10.

Mechanically it seems to be in great condition… engine is strong, gearbox is smooth, suspension and brakes work perfectly. Receipts show it has had a really good service history. When my girlfriend purchased the Clio, In Sept '13, we chose this one because it had obviously been well looked after, and felt nice and tight. It received 4 new rotors and pads, new rear shocks, new rear wheel bearings and new front strut tops for the RWC. Shortly after purchasing it we had a Renault specialist look over it, who replaced the crank pulley and both inner tie rods. They also replaced the ECU and UCH to fix an intermittent immobiliser fault. Just between the RWC and follow up work, $3000 was spent on the Clio.

In Nov '14 the car had the following work completed: A free flowing muffler fitted, with flanges welded swap to easily re-fit the standard muffler; RS Tuner; Battery relocated to boot; Timing belt, water pump, etc replaced; Practically new 182 cup shocks (modified to fit) and springs, plus camber bolts installed; Parts/interior removed to reduce weight (easily re-installed). More recently (May '15), Carbone Lorraine RC6 pads were fitted; Brake fluid change with ATE Super Blue Racing Fluid; Oil and filter changed; New Federal RS-R tyres; Whiteline rear swaybar fitted; Sony bluetooth headunit fitted; Alpine component speakers fitted; Sound deadening installed. Since Nov '14 at least $4000 has been spent on the Clio.

The car has completed 4 track days at Winton, and performed faultlessly on each occasion. Last time out I managed a 1.48.65, but it should easily go quicker.

    • Just checking, when we are talking about high temp fluid, are we all referring to DOT 5.1? I haven't had any issues with changing it every 2-3 years. 
    • Yeah that is still true AFAIK.....good brake fluid should be changed annually because it absorbs water faster which is more often than most mechanics would do it. There are cheap tools that check water% in brake fluid if you all scientific about it. I for sure would (do) run good brake fluid in anything that even casually saw the track like Murray said; avoiding the risk of "exciting" fade is worth it
    • Well, back in the day..... "race" fluids, which were essentially only really "high temp" fluids, used to absorb water more readily. So they really needed to be changed more often anyway. The coincidence of that being directly necessary along with it being what racers would do as a matter of course was just fine.
    • Does the high temp fluid degrade any different over time compared to normal one? That's one thing I've always been wondering. Because a track car is going to get the fluid flushed probably way more often than every two years and will see less kilometers driven. I would think the requirements are different. I'm running Motul RBF 600 in mine. Was recommended by my mechanic before a trackday and I've stuck with it since. Hasn't seen the track since but I've kept buying and using it for servicing anyway.
    • The brakes are all stock bar some DBA slotted discs and the EBC pads and braided lines. The car has brake ducts as standard but they're kinda pointed in the general direction of the brakes rather than really getting at the heat source. I guess I should hit it with an infra red thermometer after a session and see what they're at.  100%! Its just a curiosity more than anything. As I said, high temp brake fluid was such a track day rage back in the day. From people I speak to at the track and threads on here everybody has their own take on it but I'm not gonna scoff at spending a few more bucks.    OH, a quick side question - would you use brake fluid from an opened container even if the lid has been on? Eg, if you have a bottle that you opened last time you flushed, it's been tightly closed, is it still good?
