Painting Aluminum

Hey guys, got a aluminum intake pipe, wanted to painted it a matte black. Have read that it's a bit of a hassle to do so, has anyone done it or care to part any info like on what needs to be done ?

Rub it back with scotch brite or sandpaper, clean up with wax and grease remover, Coat with primer, sand back a little, coat with paint, 2-3 coats will do!

Be very careful if you use paint stripper as they and aluminium often dont get on.

Excuse my curiosity, what's the issue with doing that? I'm assuming it corrodes the aluminium?

Some of them have caustic in them which will eat the aluminium.

Was thinking of using degreaser to clean it, and get some heat proof paint, give it a spray, then let it sit in front of the heater for a while. Go for a few coats and done

Would that suffice ?

As long as you rough up the surface, prime and paint'

I always Prime bare metal after roughing the surface up. Haven't had a problem

Or if it is convenient you can find a sandblasting company and get it whipped. Usually very cheap and you get a damn good surface for optimus primer to stick to.
