Hi I'm new to this forum had my car for about 2and a half years so have got to know my car well just a quick question I usually service my car with motul 300v chrono 10W 40 every 5000kms but while I was down south I needed to top up oil and the best I could get was penrite hpr 15w 40 semi synthetic would've used no more than about 800 ml and I'm just really worried if I done any damage to it drove about 300km since top up am I better off not driving it till I do an oil change as it seems a bit different when driving. Cars a r33Gtr with mild mods sorry if question has been asked before couldn't find a specific answer relating to my concerns. Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Ryco are fine, you need a new mechanic mate. The only thing the greddy filter gives you is a big hit to the wallet that you don't need.

I bet if you opened them up internally they would be very similar if not the same type of filter material and design.

The comparison has been done between an OEM and Ryco filter and the difference between the two was not much.

Mate I think you need to apply your own thoughts instead of taking what your mechanic says as gospel.

At any oil change, do you really think every last cc of oil comes out that sump plug?

Of course not, there's always going to be dilution of your new oil with old oil remaining in galleries and various pockets.

Now if you noticed some dramatic change in your car's road performance after you topped up with 800cc of different viscosity oil, I'd be more concerned how come it needed topping up at all.

I know not every drop comes out at oil changes I'm definitely looking for a new workshop, I thought it could be losing oil somewhere cause usually when I service I don't require any top up. As for dramatically losing performance just was told oil was to thick to flow properly but I now think that's not the case and I doubt it needs a new dyno tune after a few months. As for the filter I done some research and it's definitely not worth the extra cash so going to be using ryco filters from now on.
