Towing

hey guys, seeing as i have to get my car towed out to charnwood tommoz(clutch being fitted) i thought it would be fine to get the NRMA to do it for me as i was quite sure that they towed for free for 20kms(im in chapman). anyway apparently i am only a Basic member or some crap so i only get 8 free kms

so i will have to get it out there either proffesionally or by my dad.

so im trying to save myself the extra $50 or so to get it taken on a truck.

would it be safe to have my dad tow me with his car? or is this dangerous? i would have thought it wasnt the safest bet, but if its not to dangerous then should i do it? he seems to think its fine but im not so sure. if it is ok then where abouts should i attach it?

i know its kinda pov but ive already saved heaps on getting the clutch and having it installed so its gonna shit me to have to fork out more cash to have it towed, but if its the safest way then i guess $50 is worth it. hmmm?

Yeah, as you're unsure what you're doing with being towed by another car, i'd say best you pay the $50, rather than some $2000 for repairs if something goes wrong.

Amaru would reccomend Quikeze towing, they've done a few jobs for him, and have been really good each time.

Yeah Quickeze towing are awesome, $55 weekdays from memory, as Aurora said, theyve towed my car around quite a bit

But no theres nothing wrong with your dad towing you, just make sure you keep lots of distance from him, keep the key in the ignition turned to on so the steering doesnt lock, and dont crash into him. If your dad is a more "seasoned" driver than yourself, id reccomend him being in the skyline and you driving his car, as it takes alot of skill/confidence/prediction so you dont crash it into the back of his car

If you're really cautious tow it sometime late at night or early in the morning depending on how secure your car will be at drop-off.

Canberra has to be the easiest place to be towing if you have to do it. Just remember, the car being towed does as much of the braking as possible. If you do it right the lead car doesn't have to brake at all. When the front car takes off remember to take up the slack very slowly at first then take off. Also remember to accelarate smoothly.

There is a metal loop for just this sort of thing underneath your car on the passenger side at the front.

Yeah towing is no problems. As said before, do it at 11pm or something.

But if I remember right, you've got a 400R bar on the front don't you? Can you still get to the tow hook OK?? Just make sure..

R33's have great brakes, so just leave the car idling so the brakes work well and take it easy. Even if you only do 70km/h down the parkway etc...

nah Nismo, i should be able to hook it up easily enough, but as the bar has been recently fully silver meshed i wont be able to take the rope through the bar, and it may not wanna go under without tugging the bar upward as its driven. i think i'll just wrap it around one hand and steer with the other, i may tear my arm off but as long as i dont hurt the front bar i'll be happy lol!!!

and no u cant all come watch, i'll film it and we can all watch it on the next cruise lol, it'll save everyone having to get up early haha.

my only concern now is getting the rope, dad said he had plenty but its being used at the moment (he's a builder) so im gonna have to track some rope down somewhere in the next 10hours..hmmmm

UPDATE: as the rope we had wasnt sufficient enough to do the job i called a tow truck at about 7:30, anyway as per niks reference i called quikeze and i was lucky enough to have a truck dropping off only a few hundred metres from my house, so he came within 10minutes. anyway im not going into detail (yet) but after much messing round and manouvering my left rear pod(next to rear bar) was ripped off and snapped completely down the middle. its just been one huge fu*k up after another lately and this has capped it off(hoping no more to come) anyway a flat bed will be hear within an hour, (as the other one was a different type) i dont even know if a flat bed will get it up as its so low. anyway i'll post more info when i know whats happening.

quickeze have non flatbed trucks? I thought they were all flatbed... they usually ask me what car I have, I say skyline, and I have always gotten a flatbed.

Anyways that sux man I hate making reccomendations for companys only to have them dick it up. But this shit happens to everyone (ask Aurora how I had to spend $10,000+ in the first few weeks of owning mine) it'll get better and youll be back boosting around in your line soon

I had mine put up on a flatbed (thanks to immobiliser being too good at its job) and my car is only just scraping in at 100mm, but it make it up the tray, just. front bar scraped slightly, but i'm getting a new front bar anyway. The exhaust also copped a little hit, though apart from that it worked fine

cheers for the kind words nik. dont worry though dude, its not asif its your fault. they asked me bout my car i told them and R33 and that it was pretty low, so i was kinda surprised to see a non flatbed rock up. anyway, its out at Joe's now, the flatbed came within half an hour and the guy was really nice and helpfull, the front bar was bout to scrape on the way up so he got some thin wood planks to lift the front wheels, so no scraping:@)

anyway i talked to my brother(he's a barrister) and he said i have no liability and that they will have to pay for the damges. Peter(i think his name is) who owns the company sounded pretty pissed, i dont think its at me, just that it happened. he's going out to Joe's soon to look at the damage and he'll let me know.

i called Jerry out at J-racing and he said it may just be better to replace the everything with an aftermarket rear bar because it will be so hard/expensive to get a new pod. hmmm

Peter from Quikeze never turned up at Joes, and he hasnt called or shown any interest in helping me. i'll send a letter in the next few weeks from my barrister, stating the damage, quotes on repairing the damage, if the damages arent fixed, it will go to small claims.

i will have to find out where i can get the pod fixed though. Joe said that there is a guy in Fyshwick that does plastic welding and it should cost around $100 to have it fixed welded, but i'd prefer to have it replaced. so i'll try to find this welder but otherwise im just going to have to hunt for a new rear pod. which will cost heaps, so i may be better off getting some aftermarket pods. any thoughts??
