Ok so Iv changed my timing belt test started with out the balancer on ran fine I only wanted a few seconds then turn off complete the job but the turbo timer kept it running before I could kill the turbo timer the belt slipped off stopping it for me .. While I'm currently uppercutting myself run me through some scenarios of what damage I may have caused

Cheers in advance no bashing [emoji106]

Why did you test it with the balancer off?

If the timing marks all line up there shouldn't be an issue, and if you are really worried then turn it over by hand, that way you avoid this kind of disaster

Tips for next time

yeah mate Nissan will have valves readily available, but it's not that simple to fix, at a minimum it is head off to do so.

I've tested an engine without the balancer before after I had an oil pump seal leak that I wanted to make sure was OK. But I did run the balancer bolt and a big washer to keep the timing belt on.

Get a leak down tester (but fit your balancer on first) and do a leak down test so you can hear if and where the valves are bent before pulling stuff apart.

It may be than only a few valves are bent, you can sort of get a indication of how bad it is before you pull the head off.

Next time it can go straight to the shop [emoji43][emoji379][emoji387][emoji387]

the shop are who bent my valves lol

Long story.

We all brainfart from time to time, unfortunately sometimes it's costly.

    • It's also worth noting that I am heavily and unconditionally biased. I've had a lot of cars including some GTRs a fair while ago. I love my BMW's now a lot. They make no sense a lot of the time and the guys on here remind me regularly that I could get something else that does what I want better and cheaper. If you're going to take on an older BMW it's definitely a commitment. If you bail on it early you'll lose money and also the ability for it to put a smile on your face. Stick with it and it just gets better.  f**k I should get into advertising.
    • Careful with posts like that around here without the flame suit on @cobo_11! 馃槀馃槀 My 330i journal is on here too. That car was so good and super reliable. We still have a 130i in the family which is almost identical to the 330i and easier to find in manual. It has also been almost faultless over the 6 or so years in the family.  I used to want an M car a lot more than I do now but if I'm honest and without trying to sound like a wanker, I can get such good performance and handling out of my 335 without needing to worry about all the crap that goes along with M car ownership. I don't need to worry about my bearings or subframe issues or the cost of replacing brakes or suspension or whether it has been impeccably maintained. And I can leave it places and not get upset when it's always filthy.
    • A pretty cool little feature discovered while restoring my seats.
    • Great write ups / details / photos. I'm sort of on the road to E90 ownership (325i or 330i), haven't hit the fork in the road yet "Yes" | "No", and some of the issues you've faced have me nervous for the age these are getting to nowadays (that wiring, jesus), but I'm guessing the pro's of ownership are still outweighing the con's? Of course, if the bloody tattslotto ROI actually went my way...E90 M3. And I'd have the cash to do all the extra lovely maintenance THOSE require. 馃槃
    • They sure do, great for when you need to chuck a sickie 馃槄   You should definitely give the beast a squirt on the track, great to enjoy the car
