Hi,

I have been speaking to a potential seller who plans to sell his BSB R34 GTR Vpsec. I managed to get a hold of the dereg and auction papers which he requested from jhc. The seller is quite helpful and honest when talking about the car.

Please see attachment. (as a matter of privacy, the VIN # on both papers has been erased)

According to the result of the auction sheet, the car received a zero grading. The reason for this grading is due to un-repaired mechanical issues, which meant the auction did not believe the vehicle was ready for sale. Unfortunately since the auction took place so long ago now, photos of the car at auction are no longer available.

Auction notes also stipulates:

Front sidemember repaired and re-painted

Front cross-member replaced

Front inner panel panel beaten and re-painted

Core support replaced

Bonnet replaced, Dents and scratches noted underneath

Audio system missing, Oil leakage noted

Apart of from the above issues the car itself is completely stock and the kms seems to be genuine and matching. The car has done 76,548km to date.

1) Car registered for road use in Japan, March 2005 with 32,100 kms
2) Car registered for road use in Japan, April 2007 with 54,500 kms
3) Car went to auction at HAA Kobe, March 2008 with 59,268 kms
4) Car complied in Australia by xxxx in June 2008

Asking price is 60k and negotiable.

What are your thoughts? Would you consider buying? How much would you pay based on the car's history?

Yeah, I agree with you on the high price. The seller was not aware of the issues when he first bought the car.

If you read the recent thread about someone trying to buy another R34 like you, he is in the same situation.

You need to consider carefully as you could be putting yourself into a bad position. Need to check the car out and see if the repairs are done correctly and the car is structurally safe.

It's common for cars to be repaired and sold, happens all the time, but you don't want to be the victim, so now you know, it definitely wouldn't be worth 60k.

Personally I'd stay away from the car because people if you re-sell in the future, people are just going to do the history check like you did for the seller and you'll get offered nothing close to what you want or payed for it.

How bad do you want it?

Agree with Hadouken... $60k 'repaired' writeoff.

Given it's stock, $60k sounds like the owner doesn't want to pay for their own lack of research and is spruiking the 'low kms'.

If you are considering, given the potential resale value pending it's structurally ok, would be around the $45k mark my guess is.

genuine kms or not, all you are deciphering is the condition/wear but it's less relevant when you throw in some accident damage/repair.

like breaker1845 said, as long as you know the history, you can bargain for a mutual price, if not move on.

After reading all comments, I have decided not to buy the car.

I was thinking of using ic to source me one but the aud-jpy exchange rate is shocking at the moment.

Hopefully it picks up soon.

Yeah the AUD is taking a huge dive around 70c USD or thereabouts.

As I've said elsewhere there isn't many BNR34's for sale and the ones which are, 50% of the aren't priced well enough hence will still be there for a long time. The other lot, worked examples north of $60k with more average versions around the $50k mark pre-negotiations.

With $60k that's a relatively comfortable budget but given you've posted about a stock-ish GTR, id say any would be mododed to some extent.

Think there's a silver on in SA for $68 or something, absolute animal.

Yeah i agree with you. If i was to import one from japan, July wouldve been the ideal time. the jpy was nearly 93 to a $.

Ive seen the silver one advertised on carsales for $68k. That car is way outside my budget lol. Budget is only 50-55k cash money and ready! :yes:

If i don't find one from here by the end of the year, then i may source one from Jap.

I've always said that you 'never' buy the first car you see. Unsure how long you've been trying to look for one but the first one is always memorable, after that you hop around a few examples and slowly but surely you'll find one thats 90% of what you're after and work on it later to fill that 10% gap.

I'd seen that 34 on the road once, looked pretty standard, had no clue it was packing that much power.

Alright! I know that I've decided not to go ahead with the car however since then ive been speaking with a few rb specialist particularly race pace in vic re the car.

I forgot the name of the guy I spoke to from racepace but was very patient and helpful. He had advised me that a full comprehensive pre inspection prior to purchase would be ideal. At the end of the inspection a full comprehensive report will be provided with their recommendation on whether the car is worth considering etc.

I briefly outlined the issues according to the auction sheet as well as the odo history and the date the car was imported to Australia. His advice was irrespective of whether or not an auction sheet was obtained it, would not have made a difference regardless. The car itself has been living in oz and driven by the owner for the past 5-6 years now and therefore the auction sheet is pretty much voided at this stage. If there were subsequent issues with the car (from the day the owner bought it til now) the owner would've had to fix it by now. Point taken!.....

Im now back to square one and have been speaking to the owner of the car. Apparently the car was sourced from a dealer in Vic named carizma. With Me being in nsw I have no idea if they are a reputable dealer????

Also pricetag on the car has been negotiated to 50k?

Hi bud,

I recently put a deposit down on a r34 Gtr Vspec early 2000 model. It has 68,000 on the clock (with the auction papers and de-registration certificate which validate the numbers). She has some nice mods listed as well.

Members of this forum do help out a lot as they can give you their past experiences and what to look out for. However your best bet is to go to a reputable mechanic to do a check as they will give you their honest opinion of the matter.

My car in question has been going to Racepace since it was imported (2008) and im going this thursday for a RWC and a final inspection before funds are paid.

The car you are looking has had some front repairs - if I were you I would move on.

TL;DR Find the car you want, get as much information as you can, visit a GTR specialist and get their thoughts, then get a SAU membership :)

Nobody with a decent enough budget is going to want to buy that car off you later on when you're ready to get rid of it, you'll end up taking a sizable hit.

You said you have a budget around 55k... Well I got my BSB v spec imported for around that and it's a grade 4.5 with 37,000 original km with books and no accident or repair history. Keep looking dude it's out there.

I'm giving it til the end of the year to source one from here, if no luck then I will import. Also the aud- jpy exchange rate is gradually picking up again. Just waiting for the right rate to import if thats the case.
