Rear End Noise

I noticed that the rear of the car makes a clicking sound when driving on holes. Any idea what's causing it ? Suspension maybe but the sound is similar to that click when putting in gear (which seems common based on other forum posts).

Sway bar end links busted? Happened to me and then noticed my links where busted! Got some Whiteline ones and right as rain!

Nathan is most likely correct, I just replaced a squeaking rear link the other day. The only way to find it is to take the wheel off and look as you move things around.

Ok I'll check that tomorrow ! Silliest question now, is the jack hidden somewhere in M35s ? Had a look the other day and couldn't find it so I wonder if there's one at all in my car...

I had a clink clunk clink from the back right every time I hit any bump.

After 2 weeks of checking everything i could , stripping the back bumper bar and the boot interior and tightening everything! the click was still there.

Untilllll it was a loose handbrake cable o.O, I got in and adjusted the shoes nicley and then tightened up the cable at the pedal. No more clinky clunky ring a ding ding.

Lie down at the back and flick the handbrake cable sheath you could find its slapping about inside.

Finally had a look, sway bar looking good.

Being a total mechanic noob, I couldn't spot that handbrake cable under there... But it does seem to be the reason because I let a bit of handbrake on while driving on a few bumps and couldn't hear anything

Could you explain where I can find it ? Or post a picture if you don't mind a bit of crawling ha-ha -)

Thats how I initially diagnosed it , the flicking of the cable at the back was to confirm and test my cable tightening without having to go out for a drive.

Its an easy fix there is a 10mm nut on the end of the cable at the top of the handbrake pedal. Grab a spanner and tighten up (you might need to remove the plastic under the steering wheel. (its tight in there) .

Dont mind getting getting under it at all SAU has been a wealth of information for me so I do what I can in return.

This is the cable you want to flick to hear the noise. ( Sorry for the crappy photo but it was just before 6 am when i took it, coffee still kicking in) this is looking at the cable with you head under the rear end from behind the rear wheel.

If you are a real mechanical newbie you won't mind my telling you not to get under the car while it is supported only by the jack. Jack it up and put axle stands or something else solid to support it before you start crawling around underneath, And you should adjust parking brake at the wheels before adjusting the cables.

Always had front wheel drive cars (or wrong wheel drive as Jetwreck would say ) so I didn't recognize anything under there, thanks for that!

As Bob said the proper way would be to adjust the shoes on the handbrake first then tighten up the cable. You might get way with just tightening it up at the pedal.

Also FWD cars (or Wrong Wheel Drive ) still have handbrake cables going to the rear. Just looks a little different.

Yeah, thanks for the advice It's an ARX so it's high enough to crawl under without jacking it up though. I'm a noob but learning as I go (managed to replace a faulty alternator on my mate's van this weekend, the PITA ones with engine under the seats haha).

It's just that I know nothing about the M35 and there's so many things I never had to deal with (auto trans, 4wd, and so on) but at least, I've got the safety right at least haha

And when it gets to hard, I have Jetwreck almost around the corner
