For anyone who has lived in Japan, or close to the scene, what do the japanese tuners think of the V35? There seems to be pretty limited application in terms of togue, drift and time attack from my limited research on YouTube/Internet.

It would seem they get no love compared to their predecessors?

A couple of interesting videos that I found:

Drift:

Time attack:

Not sure why the cryptic response.

Besides the turbo, which is what I assume you a referring to, the 32,33 and 34 are still cheap rear wheel drive coupes. V35s aren't that under powered compared to lightly modded rb's.

What is its predecessor? How is it similar?

Answer those questions and you would have the answer.

Just because they're not overly similar, doesn't mean the R-series chassis cars arn't the V35's predecessor.

They are closer to Z cars than Rs.

You're still missing the point. Irrespective of what they are more similar to, the R-chassis skylines are the predecessor.

This is off topic anyhoo.

only by name. if Carlos hadn't required the V35 to carry the 'skyline' name, no-one would have connected them to the r-series.

I think the tuning scene in Japan likely stuck with the r series skylines due to the extreme abundance of tuning options compared to what is available for the VQ engine. If they wanted something newer, they went to the 350z, which is lighter than the V35.

V-series played different roles for nissan compared to the R-chassis, no more GTR. They're more in the premium sports coupe segment, so even in Japan the fan base are quite different. I love v35 and v36s, very nice and smooth cars to drive, but they're just not that quick and not easy and cheap to mod.
