reading the cpu

I have been using information from a book on the web called The Sky is the Limit.

It mainly talks about R32 but has usfull info for R33. I have tried to get a read of the computer and have not been able to get anything to flash ect from it. The book says turn the car on with out starting it and there should be a sequence of lights. I get nothing. I just want to do a check of oxygen sensor ect. Any advice. :Bang:

Read the instruction a bit more carefully... there's more to diags mode than turning the key. Hint - it involves the screw on the side of the ECU.

Yes i realise that, however it states turn the key and there will be a red glowing light, that did not happen. Also I dont think mine has a diagnostic screw or i cant identify it..

Any advice?

All I can think of is that the LED on your ECU is dead (and I assume that you have the single LED ECU). Basically, you turn the key on, and the LED glows on the ECU. You turn the screw as far as it'll go clockwise (careful, they're fragile). Wait a couple of seconds, then turn it back. You're now in diagnostics mode 2 and the LED should flash out error codes (which have been posted elsewhere, and I assume you already have).

To get into the oxygen sensor test mode, then start and warm up the engine, then hold it at 2k rpm in neutral. LED on = lean, off = rich. Go by the trend of the light - mostly on = lean, mostly off = rich. 1-2 flashes every two seconds is about normal.

Re not having a diags screw - if it's the factory ECU, it will definitely have one. It's right next to the LED.

I dont have the screw on my ECU, Read my above post and use the consult plug by shorting the 2 pins together. There is even a photo in a previous post from last week of what the plug looks like.

I think I have two LED's .

I really dont know why it hasn't flashed. I dismantled the computer, then I cut a couple of green wires that I thought were in the way. I then spilt I think a little bit of my coke on it. No too much. So then I opened the computer in half and got a hair dryer to dry it. I think I held the dryer too close because I started to smell some smoke. I looked and the cuircut board started to melt. So I got my sticktape (there is nothing that sticky tape cant fix) and stuck the melted bit back on. I pushed all the wires back in then put it back, bingo.

ha (joking), seriosly I should be getting a flashing light? I wonder why mine isn't flashing?
