Recently got a R34 Skyline 25GT (Manual). When driving it normally the rest of the gears are fine and the car drives flawlessly but it just won't go into reverse. I eventually found out that if the car is rolling I can force the gearstick into reverse and the car will reverse fine, but obviously this isn't a solution as I wouldn't be able to roll in a carpark. What exactly is the problem here? Will I have to install an entirely new Gearbox just to fix this or could it be a minor problem that is making the car not go into reverse because as I said above, it can go into reverse if its rolling and when gearstick is forced.

There's no synchro on reverse, so it is not going to be a wear issue. Someone may have been incredibly ham-fisted and tried to jam it into reverse while moving forward and knocked all the engagement teeth off the gear. The other strong possibility is a broken/bent pin in a selector or detent problems (balls/springs gone AWOL).

You really can't know which of these it is unless you take the box apart. Your best bet by far is to either do that (take it out and take it apart yourself) or get into a workshop that can. Once it's opened up it should be pretty clear why it's f**ked and hopefully the fix won't be too hard to achieve.
