Im 17 of age and im thinking of getting an R32 GTST as my first car of my own. Ive done previous Go-Cart racing and have had some experance in 180sx and have a growing have a fascination for the cars . The thing is im unsure of what exactly to get and what not to get in a first car.

I have 15 Grand to spend but i dont know exactly wat to expect.

$15k should buy a nice, clean R32 gtst with a few mods. With all cars, don’t but the first one you see. Check out a few, and I would suggest maybe taking the car to a workshop that knows skylines, and get them to give it the once over.

Also remember to factor in insurance, as that can be a real killer for some one so young, with a turbo import.

To give you an idea of what to expect for your budget, check out the for sale forums on this site , www.carsales.com.au and keep a close eye out on www.tradingpost.com.au

keep in mind that those r33s for 15 g would be absolutely shithouse. For 15g, you'll probably get a 93 r33. but then again, the r32s are starting to get a bit old too. How about a late model 200sx or a 180? I mean, jeez, an 11 yr old r33 that has been thrashed for most of its life? The r32 would be worse.

if the cars worth 15k... after just over 4 years of insurance (@~$3.5k) you will have spent the cars worth! (minus the fact that your insurance gets better as you go on... so maybe 5 years i guess)

so... i'd rather get 2x r32 gtst's (+ 3rd party) and have one as my insurance (panels etc :P ). all i have to do is write a car off every ~4 years to break even with full comp.

*this has it's faults, i know... and i'm not serious :)

Bare in mind that you may need extra money to fix stuff that goes wrong, particularly on a 15 year old car. I mean, i only got my '96 R33 last week and already i've had to replace a battery, get a timing belt changed, have my injectors cleaned (or something...) and have a broken castor bush replaced... make sure you have extra cash to cover things like this!

I'm sure an R32 GTR can be bought for $15k :thumbdwn:

Ummm yeah u can, u can get an 1989 R32 GT-R for 16 grand. I found one in perfect condition. Thats the price for it to be fully complianced and shipped to Autralia. You just gotta get off your arse and look around and u can easily get an r32 GT-R for that price.

    • H1 is not the Humvee, but is the most road based version. Lachlan (HankScorpio) on here has a proper Humvee. He imported it a few years back.
    • Welcome Thomas! Sounds like you've made some progress. Are you able to drive it and enjoy it a bit now ?
    • HUMVEE are fine in big open areas, but they are problematic on the street and tight areas As for reliability, some of the  US Army guys I have chatted with have said that when they were working they were fine, but, the do spend alot of time in workshops for multiple reasons, admittedly, they did get a hard time by the boys and girls who drove them I would definitely put them in the "buyer beware" category  They do look tough as nails though
    • Just don't use ChatGPT or any other artificial stupidity for the equivalent of googling. Their demonstrated inability to discriminate reality from hallucination should be enough to make them totally untrusted. LLMs don't know anything and cannot think to even the smallest extent. They are just predictors of the next word, and that should never be confused with capability.
    • I think, given the usage model described in the OP, I'd never ever experience the wonders of the 400kW upgrade. What I really need is boost from 2000rpm and probably no more than 260-270rwkW. But I suspect that the highflow is not actually the turbo for that purpose, so I may in fact need to get a G25 or 30 or something right sized and very spooly. We shall see after it is tuned. I've had to back the boost and boost ramp off to stop the thing from pinging since the highflow went on, so I've been almost living the NA life for 9 months now! Injectors are recently in hand. AFM is in hand. Dyno is fixed. Just need to clear a queue of f**king Supras out of the way (and probably fit my new gearbox). So....some time this year? Lol.
