Hey guys,

Looking at upgrading the exhaust on my R34 GTT over the next few months. I was just wondering what my best options are for with:

- Quiet on idle

- Loud on high RPM

- Offers the highest performance

- Budget of $1,000

Anyone have recommendations and stores to buy from?

For highest performance you'll want a full turbo back including dump, front pipe and a high flow cat.

I'd offer a couple of other requirements to add to the list if I may:

  • Properly fitted and tucked in for maximum ground clearance, there's nothing worse than scraping your car or mid muffler on speed humps all the time
  • Not droney at standard road speeds 60, 80, 100, 110

The cheapest may not be the best. I have a full frankenexhaust mixed from random parts, it fits well and performs great but is droney and probably ended up being more costly this way too...

This doesn't really exist with the budget you have.

Unless you want to buy like, someone's second hand exhaust and then do a little modding/fabbing to make it fit and work with your setup as every setup is a bit different.

In other words, buy my old exhausts, thanks - Nothing off a shelf is going to satisfy the criteria you've listed

$1000 will only get you something second hand if you require turbo back and it will either be loud or restrictive.

I'd probably try to find something second hand that flows really well and stick a decent muffler in it.

I can probably compromise on a few areas for now. With just a basic exhaust surely $1,000 is sufficient? (Excluding installation)

It can be done, try Jesse Streeter or Import Monster and see if they can supply a Fujitsubo Legalis or similar. Understand these will have a restrictor inbuilt and will struggle to make top end power, but will sound great and be legal or close to legal dB.

Otherwise there are quite a few places that could do a custom stainless system for that coin.

Buy a cheap mig, a hooker aeroflow, a Berkelee straight through.. Some pipe and bends.

Make. It.

Then you also own a shit mig welder. But it's an exhaust. So shit welds are ok.

That's what you get when you pay an "expert " to make one.

You will either crash car or sell it before exhaust wears out......or falls off, depending how shit you weld.

If you want to get some ideas for a modded setup here's what I have:

  • JJR 3" bellmouth dump/front – customised (to ensure good fit with my Hypergear IWG, and for ground clearance)
  • Venom 3" high flow metal cat – flows much more than the XForce I had first
  • Custom 3" piping between cat and mid muffler
  • Small mid muffler – for good ground clearance
  • HKS Super Drager 3.5" to 5" rear section and muffler

It would have been cheaper to build a full custom system rather than mixing and matching parts over time but oh well. Also full second hand systems for the sedan are like hen's teeth.

And get raped hard. What a bloody stupid idea to promote...

A decent exhaust doesn't improve in power when you drop it.

My R34's pumping 380rwkws internally gated with exhaust dropped, make no where where near it with 3 inches exhaust back on. I'm sure you will come up with a quite alternative.

I have a full turbo back system to suit an R34 sedan that I may be willing to part with if anyone ever requires one.

How does that system actually work? Because looking at it, I actually thought it was a better (i.e, far easier to hide) system than Scotty's "external gate on housing" setup.

Then again, why not just simply make the dump diameter that size?

Car is currently running a full 3 inches SS Havoc fabrications turbo back exhaust with two megnaflow mufflers keeping it quite.

The idea is getting back pressure out of the exhaust system. Valve is spring pensioned that is forced open by exhaust gas pressure when > 3psi. It is currently opening at WOT in 3rd and 4th.

    • Yes...but look at the numbers. There is a tiny tiny fraction of the number of Joules available, compared to what is used/needed. Just because things are "possible" doesn't make them meaningful.

    • Ok so I have sorted everything with my uniclutch and  i can offer up a bit of feedback and some things that might help others.    I found problems with factory damper line. Weird shit and had trouble with peddle adjustment    I used this https://au.gktech.com/products/r33-gts-t-skyline-braided-clutch-line?_pos=2&_sid=22b01b9b9&_ss=r Also when adjusting peddle leave a bit of play. You can get into a over stroke condition easy.. Make sure you can push the slave forward after adjusting to confirm fluid can return to master then you will need to pump it up heaps…..not sure why but that’s how it is.    last thing the splined adapter is machined perfectly. If your input shaft is old like mine was I would put a bit of valve grinding paste on it and stroke it like a 15 year old. Just to give it a tad more clearance and to better match it to the spline.    reason is on a near flat shift I have had situation where the peddle returns a millisecond after you lift from the clutch. No slip or anything but I reckon this is due to tolerance on the spline being way tighter than stock clutch and binding for a sec. I think this will go away but also my spline was old. Box is old so I guess I should have checked better. It’s a super neat fit.    it feels light as and holds awesome without any noise
